I used visa paywave to pay for my groceries the other day -- waved the card over the terminal , it beeped, all good.

But, the checkout operator said it didn't go through rescanned and made me use paywave again, another beep.

But, I told her I thought I'd paid twice so she got her manager who sided with the operator and told me to return with my receipt and credit card statement.......I would have thought they'd have given me the benefit of the doubt for a $10.00 transaction. They spent 15 minutes trying to figure out what happened too.

So, today, I see I've been billed twice.

Anyway, the point is, that some staff have not been trained on how to use paywave at supermarkets, so , might not be the best idea to use it.

Shouldn't the terminal display (and print) "ACCEPTED" like in any other card transaction anyway?

That's really poor. I'll definitely not be getting into this payment option any time soon if that is the level of competence that is out there at the moment to deal with this more convenient way of paying.

Yeap, that's right.

I have used this multiple times in countdown at self service checkout using mastercard. No problem whatsoever.

You're not going to get billed twice. The standard (for PayWave and PayPass) is designed in a way that you can't make two consecutive transactions on the same terminal without voiding the previous one.

Read the OP again. It is confirmed that he was billed twice as they rescan his item again.

Seems very weird, never had any problems with Paywave and never been double-charged. The store I work in has Paywave terminals + it just does the standard "Accepted" or "Declined" as if they inserted the card, on the eftpos printout shows "CONTACTLESS" so don't understand how they could have mucked this one up.

How easy is it going to be to go back and get it refunded? eg did they make a record of the problem. They should have also picked up it at their end when they were reconciling their accounts, if they had made a record of it. They should give you some credit for the problems. When they normally make an error has a problem, they will usually refund you and give you a replacement product for free, which is good service.

Slightly OT but when I used Google Wallet here there was a receipt on the phone and a transaction in Google I could check immediately. That's a bit harder with just a card.

But when I used Mastercard Paypass in the US with the AirNZ card, the terminal did issue a receipt for the transaction.

Ahh, was just about to create the same topic regarding Paywave and Countdown!

Once I scan my payWave card, the 4 green lights come on, but then tells me to insert/swipe my card! I cancelled and retried many times, but still the same issue.. So I go to ASB and order a replacement, arrived two days ago, tried today, same problem! That's two different Countdowns that don't work!

Any ideas? Oh, and their system is a Verifone VX820.. like the one below.

So far I have used it at BP, Countdown, Repco and no problems so far.
It should of printed out a receipt (believe this is a requirement for the transaction not for your groceries) and stated on their terminal if it had been declined or accepted.

It's good to see they showed them how the new pinpads work, this is not new technology I first ran into it overseas in 2007.

Would not mind to get google wallet working, my GSIII is still in the shop but can it work on a GSIII or do I need to buy a Nexus 4?

Dion

PS showed it to my mum today and she was a bit surprised as I did not swipe my card, saying that she is still waiting on a contactless card.

I've noticed this with my card, for some reason the transaction would decline with some pinpads - with ASB also, when it works though it works <1s
