The problem with the Lenovo sale (and most PC vendors in NZ at the moment) is that most models are gen 3 Core processors. I am waiting for Gen 4 haswells. Frustrating!

All the T series has been updated, which is good enough for me! It is a shame how long it take for new models to arrive here though.

Yeah I feel like by the time Haswell is 'common' in the shops, then Broadwell will be just around the corner.

thelimoman: Idk whether this has been mentioned but Lenovo have some ridiculous deals. I just got a $3500 configuration of the T440s for $2500. That was pretty unexpected...

Edit:

The code for all Lenovo's deals is "TUESDAY" (case sensitive), if anyone else is itnerested :)

Lenovo's prices are insane compared to the value they offered a bit over a year ago, $300 off a 2.1k laptop is what I would expect to be able to haggle off them via phone anyway.

maxeon: I bought a iPad Air (couple of them) in Australia Apple store and I had to check with warranty here and its valid here if you buy it in Aus.
Basically if you buy AUS/NZ - its covered between countries.

When you buy there and fly you get 10% off tax in TRS scheme at the airport, please remember you have to show them the receipt and the actual ipad.

Well, it looks like we may give it a go purchasing via Aus, given these comments; a relative is coming over for Xmas so it'll be perfect timing to buy it and have it shipped to her address. If we can organise it by this Friday we'll probably even get a bit more off the product.

I've gone through the whole ordering process bar pressing the "confirm order" and it appears to accept my NZ credit card details - does anyone know if this works in practice - ie can we purchase goods from the Australian Apple store accessed from a New Zealand location and using a New Zealand credit card? (I don't want to jack the whole thing up and have it fail at this last hurdle!) Thanks in advance...

Why don't you just get them to pick it up at duty free? They could even pick it up at JR duty free in NZ then you have the consumer guarantees act cover. Much less hassle. You can see their prices on the websites.

Not a bad idea, esp to provide CGA coverage (though one downside I can see is that I can't pay for it directly myself, plus she'd no doubt have to buy it on an Aus credit card.)

JR's website only has prices for the previous generation iPad and iPad Mini - will give them a call tomorrow to see if they're offering the latest. Duty Free Stores NZ don't seem to sell them (or at least not mentioned on their website); same for DFS.

Spoke to JR today - prices seem pretty good for iPads ($1087 for a 64GB 4G model versus $1249), so this may be a good source for some for a cheap iPad  - the big proviso is, though, that they won't do pre-orders - you have to take your chances they'll have the specific model you want in stock at the time you pass through duty free. At this point in time they say they've got very few of the range in stock. I may be willing to risk it on colour, but wouldn't be comfortable selecting a different size or settling for a wifi-only model.

Did you give DFS a yell? They might also be worth a shot.

Cheers.

Thanks for the idea - I gave them a call, but unfortunately they sell no Apple products.

Battlefield 4 will be 25USD at 1.10PM tomorrow until about 4PM at Amazon.com (digital copy - origin). I've used amazon to buy a huge amount of games - you just need an american billing address (preferably one in a state that doesnt have sales tax). NZ credit cards work fine. Steam is also running a sale at the moment...plenty of good stuff incl Skyrim for 8.50s

Edit...BF4 is 31NZD if I use the BNZ currency converter...you probably will pay 50c exchange fees though

Apple's "Shopping Event" doesn't seem too exciting - prices aren't much reduced if at all, but many products come with an Apple Store voucher - apart from the iPad's I checked out MacBook Pros and they come with a $180 card.

I wonder if the store cards can just be used to purchase an iTunes card; that may be the best way to realise the best value from it, eg to be able to buy music or apps one would have otherwise purchased, rather than just over-priced Apple accessories.

EDIT - they can't damn! Wonder what I'll do with mine?!

Note that Apple Store Gift Cards can be redeemed on the Apple Online Store and at Apple Retail stores, but not on the iTunes Music Store.

iPad deals are as follows:

iPad Air - $90 Apple Store card
iPad Mini, iPad 2 - $60 Apple Store card
iPad Mini retina - nothing (unsure if the price is reduced at all? Nothing's mentioned)

The interesting thing is that when I went through the motions of ordering on the NZ site, the price of the iPad reduced by $13.50, for which I can't see any explain for (not a big discount, I know, but better than nothing).

The same small reduction happened when I ordered an iPad of the Aus site - instead of $949 it was $941.50 (and this is in the order confirmation email), (includes an Apple Store gift card of $75 AUS)  - so a bit over $1050 NZ, nearly a $200 saving on the NZ price.
