I would like to see smoking banned period.

Ditto, would cost this country a lot less.

Then they'd have to find other way to garnish tax revenue  to replace the duty and sale tax from tobacco sales plus the health problems will  still be there for years to come.

Once tobacco is banned the dogodders will start of other things..

What u mean it would cost this country a lot less?

Most people don't realise that smokers pay for their own treatment further down the track if they get sick. The tax on cigarets is very high and its in the governments best interest to keep smokers smoking :-) People seem to have this illusion that if smoking was banned taxpayers would be better off. Thats far from the actual truth.

It is about health

Then it is my choice as a smoker to look after my own health, i wont be forced into not smoking (or in fact forced into any type of you have to be healthy), why don't they ban fast food and unhealthy food and make it you need government issued dinners on your table?

but your smoke is not kept just to you, it is inhaled by those that are not interested in or want to smoke or those who cannot avoid it. The residue of poisons are left to come in contact with those who don't want it. As for food unless you are an extremely messy eater the food you eat will not be ingested
by others unless they choose t.

Do you drive a car?
Does it use petrol or diesel?
As for if im smoking, i am usually outside and if im outside i doubt at all if you are breathing in any more dangerous chemicals than you do from living in a city everyday.

I have the same problem when I sit next to somebody in the train for example. I'm not interested in their body odors. I can't avoid it and in some cases its so bad that I would rather smell cigarette smoke.

ummm change seat ?

Easier said that done when you on the 5pm back to Kapiti. :-)

Off topic so apologies, but is it really that bad to Kapiti, we are considering moving there and the wife was going to leave her car in her employers car parking building during the week and train it, she reakons she will get lots of work done on the train.

I always find it funny that people bring up cigarettes as a poison etc ... even second hand smoke. But they will walk around in the city centers where they are exposed to all sorts of more dangerous toxins in the air and not make a peep about it.

Lyderies. WHat brand of cigarettes do you smoke? I use to smoke Peter Stuyvesant. Back in the days when I was a smoker I use to smoke in my car on the way to and work everyday. Never had kids back then but would never be able to do it.

Never really got this whole anti smoker thing. Maybe its because I am an ex smoker that I don't seem to mind so much.

Walking down the street and a clown in front of me exhales a lung full straight in my face, or trying to get into a building surrounded by smokers, yep non smokers turn into smokers.

Where you moving to Kapiti or Wellington?

I drive in most days because I just prefer it. If I train in the trip alone is normally around 50minutes. Then one has to factor in the time to get from home to the station in Kapiti and the time to walk from the wellington station into the office. So the total commuting time can easily be an hour and 30 minutes each way which is a long time. Driving out of my driveway and into my parking in Wellington takes me 50minutes most days. But then I generally leave at around 6:15am and leave Wellington at 4:00pm. This way I miss all the traffic.

If she wants to do some work on the train then I recommend the Capital Connection. It is a little bit more expensive but it has seating with tables. Its easy to pull out your laptop and do some work. But it only runs in and out of Wellington once per day.

She leaves in the morning around 6.30am and does not get home until 7ish, we are currently in the Hutt Valley but sick of the flagged  in weather here.

Freedom Blacks - Cheap and Nasty

I will smoke in my car (unless i have anyone who dosnt like it with me)
I do respect no smoking areas and make sure i put my butts out and into the bin, but when people dont respect my freedom to do as i please with my body i will usually go out of the way to make sure that they know that im smoking

Its one of the reasons that I live up the coast. The weather in Wellington is just utter cr@p. Especially this year as we really still waiting for summer to arrive LOL. The commute is a minor inconvienience to the better weather.

Once the new road goes in Kapiti is going to be on Wellingtons back doorstep.

In my position easy said than done.

I also believe there should be tighter controls on emissions from vehicles, I am a strong believer in the move away from fossil fuelled vehicles.

Personally I am all for the Govt. putting sterilizer in the water, and then providing potential parents with a antidote that gives them 12 months to conceive. Prior to this they must prove they are fit parents (not necessarily a financial test).

The idea of competent, dedicated people being allowed to breed is a theoretically sound one, but  I prefer my drinking water as free from chemical crap as possible, thanks. :P I'm not particularly happy about even fluoride in it.

Competent, caring parents would not care about legislation banning smoking as it would not affect them.

KiwiNZ:
The Anaphylactic reaction to Peanuts even in very very small quantities can be very quick and very nasty including rapid death.

Yep. It can cause the windpipe to swell up and block itself off, meaning the person simply can't breath and quickly suffocates, and means mouth-to-mouth attempts are pointless as well. :-(

There was something in the NZ Herald last week(?) about some trials in the UK which were having a great success rate and meant people with such allergies were able to eat peanuts, etc. with little or no effects. I didn't fully read it, but it might eventually (as with all these studies) lead to these and other allergies becoming less of a problem.
