mudguard:
avecha: The Dark Knight Rises. Epic!!

I went and saw it last night. Hsted it, very disappointed really.

Also saw last night; it was ok - I didn't hate it, I didn't rave over it.

I didn't like the ending.  I can't say why without spoilers.

Just finished watching The Best Exotic Marigold and have to say I really enjoyed it and for anyone who's older or wants to see a good movie about the older generation this is a great movie.

9 out of 10.

I also saw this yesterday and feel very similar - it was okay, not great.  Just having an "OK" Dark Knight film is pretty much like having a "disappointing" Dark Knight film...

I will say I've warmed up to certain things in the hours and day since watching it, than I did while I was in the cinema watching the film.  I wasn't overly engaged in the film so instead of being sucked in and blown away by some things, I was more critical and judgemental - so that brought me out of the film experience.

Bane was definitely a fantastic villain.  The twists were satisfying, and the way all three story arcs were incorporated into one over arching story was impressive. I think I want to go see it again to give it a fair go.

To provide a counter-point to everyone saying TDKR was just OK, I loved it. Bane was fantastic (although still not as good as Ledger's Joker), and I thought Caine's Alfred was brilliant. If I were to nitpick something, it would be Catwoman. Anne Hathaway didn't work for me, even if she did look good in leathers. :) - 9/10. (TDK is a 10/10 for me in comparison)

Quick diversion if I may, but where is best in Wellington for Dark Knight Rises?
Thinking Reading Titan XC cinema vs the Reading Gold Lounge experience, both about the same price.
Thanks.

Saw DKR last night, was expecting more, lots of questions for me over the plot etc. I like superhero movies for the special effects etc, and on this front fairly bland. Decent acting on the most part. 7.5/10

The last time I was in the Gold Lounge, I was disappointed with my experience as we were in one of the smaller screens, and as the Gold Lounge seats were way at the back, the screen seemed miles away.  Sort of ruined the "big screen" experience.

Was in the XC for Spiderman recently, and thought it was "ok", nothing brilliant - didn't really notice the sound system during the film, really only during the "wow! promo" clip.  Spiderman 3D on the Titan XC screen from half-way up was very nice though!

At the end of the day, I guess it's up to you what you're wanting to experience - big screen, newer sound system with better surround sound = Titan XC.   Lazyboy chair (for what that's worth) a long way back from a smaller screen = Gold Lounge.  For a 2:45 minute film, you may want the comfy chair...

Not worth paying for the gold lounge anymore I think.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback.
With young kids I hardly ever get to a cinema any more.
Is Reading the place to go for this movie? (being big budget, visual I expect)

Nearly 3 hours, {insert numb a$$ joke here!}

Glad it's 2D only, that removes another decision!

I reckon it's totally worth it now.  It's only $20!  Hell for $19.50 all I get at The Embassy is a seat closer to the screen, supposedly bigger and more comfortable but they're not really.

50c more gets me a lazyboy and a coffee brought in halfway through - good value I reckon.  Much better than when Gold Lounge was $40 odd bucks per person!

GC in Queen St is only $20 on Tuesdays, $35 other times. I don't mind paying usually though last time I saw Spiderman and it was a fairly tiny little screen. I don't need imax, but considering I watched Ted right after in GC and it was much larger I felt a little ripped off.

Seems there are two Gold Lounge class cinemas at the Reading in Wellington. One has quite a small gold section which might indicate it's in a smaller theatre. The other has lots of gold seats, more rows and much wider, so looks to be quite a bit bigger cinema.

I went gold in the end as the movie is quite long, but really appreciate the comments for both the Gold and Titan XC cinemas today. Thanks.

Ha, cracked me up. The Gold Lounge Cinema #1 actually is at the back of the Titan XC cinema at Reading Wellington!
Really enjoyed the Gold experience at what was roughly $2.50 or so more!

Just got back from the new Batman.

Meh.  6/10.

Not terrible, but the direction just felt lifeless.
Lots of epic white-knuckle moments, which is good. Great fight scenes too.
Without spoiling it, the "twist" did catch me by surprise, which is rare, but it took something away from the story for me at the same time.

Hathaway was lovely, but not "catty" enough. She just happened to have a black suit and be good at jumping out of windows. Perhaps they didn't want to sexualise her too much, but to NOT have lots of looming body shots was a bit disappointing! Haha.

Oldman and Caine were awesome, as usual.

I HATE Bale's husky Batman voice, and it's even sillier when he keeps using it in front of people who know he's really Bruce Wayne.

I'm also allergic to Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Not sure why, he just bugs me in everything he's in.

Just watched "The Lost Battalion" which was a 2001 made for TV movie about a WWI battalion which was cut off and surrounded by German forces in the Argonne Forest.

Would highly recommend it as one of "must watch" war movies.
