gjm: hmmm.....my BB code disappeared... try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZedLgAF9aEg&feature=relmfu

Seriously folks, how hard is to use BBCODE?

End with [/youtube], start with [youtube] and only put the VIDEO CODE THERE NOT THE ENTIRE URL.

obviously harder than copying and pasting a url?

Actually I knew what I did wrong when I looked a bit closer but a crying baby demanded my attention more than a BB code.

It does beg the question though, if people keep doing it wrong, maybe there's something wrong with the user interface? Just saying...

We used to have an icon before - you just had to click the button and copy to URL. People "couldn't find the icon" and literally DEMANDED BBCODE support.

We put BBCode support and people can't use it. It's a standard used around the world. It's text only one opening tag, the video code, one closing tag. I am not the one to change the standard.

How about putting a link from the BBCode box in the reply box such as below

You can use BBCode in the Quick Reply box. The following codes are valid: [b] [i] [s] [u] [url] [url=] [img] [youtube].

Why not just make it easy for the user, just saying "look at the documentation" doesn't solve the problem, it just means you tell a lot of people to look at the documentation.

http://sirius.gogo.co.nz/test.txt

2 minutes to write and test a regular expression that takes what the user posts, and makes it into what the system needs.

Granted this is in PHP but I'm sure even the lowliest of web application languages can support regexps.

Edit: Can't post the example code directly, linked to it instead.
