Found the DSE espresso machine.

"Compatible with Nespresso"... Interesting.

Just doesn't look as stylish which is strangely one of the plus points when I look at ours.

A quick search shows DSE NZ & AU sell these, plus Kogan AU and eBay AU dealers. I'd say is a Chinese knock off...

freitasm: Just received this box from Nespresso with a "thank you" card:

was feeling very envious of your gift until I saw what you go through per month. Now I think they are miserable and should have sent you a carton. Laughing

With this disclaimer it is sure to be a knock off

This Nespresso™ compatible coffee machine is supplied and manufactured by a third party that is not affiliated or associated with Societe Des Produits Nestle SA or Nespresso™. This Nespresso™ compatible coffee machine is not sponsored or endorsed by Societe Des Produits Nestle SA or Nespresso™. Nespresso™ pod capsules can be used in this coffee machine and can be purchased online from Nespresso™ at http://www.nespresso.com or at Nespresso™ boutiques throughout Australia & New Zealand. That said, at the price it is almost tempting to give it a whirl

They've been selling them for a few months now (in quantifiable geek terms, since before the S-III launched), so theres bound to be a few users out there.

Interestingly I haven't seen any 'nespresso compatible capsules' here yet. They seem to be available in Europe at supermarkets, and although they're only a few percent cheaper it's handy having them so readily available.

Outpresso is something I want to buy next - this way we can separate the coffee grounds from the aluminium capsules, allowing us to use the coffee as compost and send the capsules to standard council recycle with other aluminium products.

The Nespresso store in Auckland seems to run its own recycle programme as well...

hmm.. I think I might make use of my drill press to do something like that. Great idea.

Well hav de taken the gamble and bought one of the DSE jobbies for $159, will grab some pods on the weekend, give it a whirl and report back. To be honest it looks like it will do everything my parents Delonghi EN265 does so will be interesting

Can only give you first impressions from a non-connoisseur so take it all with a grain of salt....

Essentially the functionality is on parr with the equivalent Delonghis, in operation it works in a similar fashion albeit with a bit less finesse, it is noisier, it doesn't have as good a isolation so the pump tends to vibrate the whole unit a lot more. The genuine nespresso pods fit as intended. The frother has two modes, frothing and/or heating and works well.

Visual - it has a less plastic more industrial appearance, it's not as pretty as a Delonghis but nor does it look ugly or out of place in the kitchen

Performance - given the process is relatively simple and I an using nespresso pods the taste is indifferent to my palate, initial impressions was it was a bit weak however after a bit of an investigation I noticed the lungo setting only output about 90ml of water which is a bit less than the Delonghis, the unit allows you to custom set the espresso and lungo levels so I have tweaked that and all is well

Negatives - the design only allows for a short cup/glass to be used. The cup/glass can vibrate around on the stand while pump is on. Neither issue is a deal breaker for me

For the price of $159 there is no other way of looking at it other than exceptional value for money, obviously I can't vouch for long term reliability but time will tell and worst case scenario it's only $159 afterall
