Topic # 110381 8-Oct-2012 17:00 Send private message

Saw this on my Twitter timeline and found a press release:

The Party ISP have introduced un-metered websites

Internet Service Provider The Party www.theparty.co.nz have introduced unmetered websites to all their ADSL and VDSL broadband plans.

Customers of The Party will get unmetered access to Youtube, Quickflix, iSKY and TVNZ on Demand, with plans to add more sites in the future.

CEO Adam Fenech says The Party recognises that customers today are using the internet more for online streaming of entertainment than ever before and want to make it easy for them to view their favourite shows and content online without having to worry about their broadband data cap.

The unmetered access is across all plans ADSL and high speed VDSL.
The Party also have unlimited ADSL plans which have full unlimited download caps to all web content.

www.theparty.co.nz are the new comers in the NZ ISP market but are already making serious in roads through recognising what customers want and need from their internet connection.

With no contracts and no fee when moving from another ISP to The Party ISP

Many customers are taking full advantage if The Party’s service and bundling their broadband with VoIP (Voice over internet protocol). This saves the customer money every month compared to a typical landline, with monthly charges and toll charges being less. More information on their services can be found at www.theparty.co.nz.

The company is registered as The Party 2012 Limited and the director seems to be also involved with A Class Security and Electrical Ltd.

Perhaps I've become overly cynical but the website smacks of amateurishness design and quality control standards. Simple mistakes like "Cost per local number per month $5 per month (VOIP)", "THE PARTY advise all customers to have antivirus software installed on their computer Also anti spam such as mail washer pro is also advised (TOS)" and the garish selection of colours don't inspire much confidence. This is purely judging a book by its cover though. The webhosting must be resold from a US provider at those prices, not that I can see any info on where it hosts websites. Page visits are tracked via a free service (StatCounter.com).

Every company starts somewhere but I'd be a lot more comfortable knowing whose network these guys are reselling and what sort of protection is in place for consumers if it goes belly-up.

Will watch with interest.

Unmetered iSky, Quickflix, Youtube and TVNZ OnDemand is good value.

although makes me slightly suspcicious that they can unmeter TVNZ ondemand when no other ISP in NZ seems able to do so after they shifted to Akamai - Orcon and Snap used to do it, but not since then and I'm sure they would if they could. So how is 'the party' getting round it?

Although what protection is there of any ISP going under? Its no big deal really anyway if an ISP does go under, it just means switching to another one, but more likely another one would take over the customers. It is not like web hosting for example, where you could lose data, email and the website if the hosting suddenly disappeared and you hadn't made backups.

"The Party reserves the right to manage the top 5% of high users to ensure the continued supply of a reliable service to our customers."

I won't sign up to their unlimited plan then :P

No issues so far, and I use a truck load of data.
Getting full line speed at peak. something I never got with my previous ISP

maybe they're just unmetering local Akamai content without discrimination - in which case you'd get a bunch of other 'unmetered' traffic too.

Webfarm and Freeparking use that server farm in the USA for hosting services. They are both owned by ICONZ, but operate locally in Taranaki where the owner of the ISP is based.

How long have you been with them? Have you had any problems that required support? If so how quick was support? Seeing as the domain name is only 2 months old I'm guessing that you've only been with them for a month or less? And do you have any connection to them? (Not accusing you of anything, just nice to get that question out of the way). Thanks

I'd also be interested in how you found out about them. they have been around for 2 months and have done no advertising anywhere that I have seen.

They really should have called their company 'The Firm', not 'The Party.

They started off as "A class computers" in New Plymouth.  Had one store, became two, then back to one and then disappeared to emerge again as "A class security". This now appears to be their latest venture, maybe this one is a stayer but.... ?

Just on a month. No connection to them.
As far as I know support line goes to Adam directly and he has answered every time I have called.
Found out about them via Twitter :)

I signed up to them after lengthy conversations with Adam in which he guaranteed service etc. Speeds have been *much* better than slingshot, especially during peak.

They appear to be using HD bandwidth, here's a tracert to geekzone:

I believe Adam used to run ISP Dreamnet, which was later acquired by Orcon.
