Hi all, I'm a newbie on Geekzone. I just kicked my phone connection by mistake and the wires pulled out. Saw there was lots of posts on here about how to connect, but none covered my 4 wire socket. Any help appreciated because I have no phone at the moment ! A photo is probably the quickest explanation. See the white wire is on a joiner to a white blue wire going to connection 5 The red green and blue have all come free. Would love to get this hooked back up quickly. Thanks in advance

Itll be daisy chained. All the jacks are now dead I take it? :) Only need 2 wires for the jack itself, the others will be jumpered using pushconnectors to the next outlet.. just cant remember which. Going by the pic, Id say orange needs to be on 2 9still sleeved and been in a krone punch) and the other 2 were likely in a push connector too (stripped) or twisted cheapo style Time for Sbiddle or CoffeeBaron to intervine http://www.telepermit.co.nz/PTC200X12.html

Typically blue and blute/white are used as the primary pair. But as fact it looks like a DIY job anything could go. Try punching blue to 2 and then the green and red to 3 and 6. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? Check my blog post

Looking at the picture, and, it is not normal, my suggestion would be to just put the red one on number 2, plug the phone in to it and see if you have a dial tone. The damage to the insulation on that wire makes it look like it has been punched down. I take it that you did not strip the other 2 wires and they were like that? It looks like there is some oxidation on the bare wires so I think that they have been like that for a while, but, it could just be the photo. You don't strip the wires when you punch them down, but, who knows what has been done here in the past. If that works, and you have other phones that don't, try holding the blue / green against 1 & 4 and see if the other phone gets a dial tone. Unfortunately, your phone wiring is a non standard mess and it is difficult to work out what is happening there.

It looks to me like the typical old 4-wire cable (red, white, blue, green) with the white gel-cap extended onto a white/blue wire. This typically uses the red and white wires which should be punched down onto terminals 2 and 5 on the BT jack

This typically uses the red and white wires which should be punched down onto terminals 2 and 5 on the BT jack absolutly correct - the blue and green wires are not used (i dont know why they have been stripped back) The white one has been extended to connect it to 2 - the red one goes on 5 - but please use the right tool to connect it - either the cheap 'The Warehouse' version that just push inserts the wires on or the correct Krone (or Cloned version) which inserts and cuts the wire off

Thanks for all your replies ! Yes red onto 2 and white as it was on 5 and I have dial tone again. I just left the green and blue disconnected. Perhaps there is a non working extension somewhere, but I only use this jack. We all use wireless phones these days right? who needs extensions.

We all use wireless phones these days right? who needs extensions. It's a good idea to have one old fashioned corded phone around in the event of a power cut. I have one, but I don't leave it plugged in normally.
