Topic # 113831 29-Jan-2013 15:13 Send private message

Hi All

I am fed off of a conklin cabinet in Central Otago CYD-G from the clyde exchange .  On the Chorus network upgrade map it mentions an upgrade to >5mbps by July 2013.  There used to be spreadsheets online of where Chorus were at with the planned upgrades, I can no longer find these that relate to my cabinet.
Do Chorus supply updated install dates if you call them or is this info able to be sourced elsewhere.

As you can imagine the service from the conklin is dreadful as all ports are fully subscribed this makes the net almost unusable during common usage times for latency sensitive applications. Full Conklin line speed 400KB is only achievable from 11 - 12pm onwards.

Any info on when I could get on when this upgrade will take place would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jeremy

The Chorus internal portal now lists build status.  It's a shame it's no longer public.

Are you sure CYD-G is getting upgraded?

It's not on the coverage report as being upgraded under RBI, CYD/K is .. but not CYD/G

You can check out which cabinets are getting upgraded here: http://www.chorus.co.nz/rural-broadband-initiative

The XLS is down the bottom half of the page... and I hate to say your cabinet isn't on that list.

Thanks for your reply,

Yes I can only find reference to CYD/K

I do recall finding my cabinet on previous install spreadsheets. I cannot find these anymore

But if i put an address in on my road for example

212 Strode Road, Earnscleugh 9391

it shows as a planed upgrade by July 2013

I'll ask my contacts that I have... but it doesn't bode well.

Thanks, As we already have a cabinet with a conkin. Is there a chance they dont list it as a cabinet upgrade.
As would it only need a dslam installed  ??.
Our cabinet is the white one with the heat delfectors as standoff on the outside. Not sure if these have the additional room.

I've just queried CYD/G and it seems it's on the RBI list to be ready around mid 2014.

As with all things these things can move about so I couldn't possibly commit to it as Chorus is doing the installation work.

Thankyou for the helpfull replys,

Can anybody offer any advice on getting the scheduled upgrade advanced. As most would be aware the effects of being at the end of a fully subscribed conklin.

I have heard it is possible to petition and secure an advancement to the schedule. I do not however know who to contact and and what threshold of subscribers is needed to pull this off.

Being semi rural. I know all of the Business or Family's connected to our cabinet and would have little difficulty getting acceptance from any or all of them to petition on there behalf. THis would also be of cost benefit to Chorous & isp's as there are people who want adsl but there are no free connections in the cabinet.

Any suggestions on the process or contacts would be appreciated.
I know it has been done though local MP's before but that would be a last resort.

Thanks

Jeremy

Oversubscribed Conklin's are a growing problem, especially in the last few months with the huge increases in plans across the board.

As for getting an upgrade ahead of schedule - I guess the big question is what would your response be when asked why you should be able to jump the queue ahead of a large number of others who are suffering the exact same speed issue? There are 3 or 4 threads on here in recent days from people who are experiencing the same issue.

The solution in the mean time would clearly be for Chorus to rate limit BUBA connections on Conklin's to solve the issue of 1 or 2 customers trashing their 500GB connections which is using a significant amount of available bandwidth.

It also looks like the vast majority of the srea around you already has wireless RBI coverage as well which would be an option.

The http://chorus.co.nz/fibre-rollout-map site is more up to date than the SAT tool (they're being merged). But shows a different date.

I might escalate this internally.

Thanks for the link, The upgrade by July is what most of our district is hoping for. I have 4 close friends on T-Sticks. Due to the full cabinet.
In your opinion do you belive the Fibre map to list he correct date, July ?

Thanks

CYD/G is also a waiter Conklin  - which means that its full up (no one else can be connected to it unless existing users cancel) and this could explain why its possibly getting overloaded at times.

Our latest update's for other customers on this Conklin is that its looking to be upgraded by the 30/09/2013 but as others have said those dates are not always confirmed.

Thanks Ralph,

The waiter status is a pain. I am unwilling to change providers till its resolved as the is always the risk of getting dropped and joining the wait queue.

The Network Upgrade Map http://chorus.co.nz/fibre-rollout-map has now been upgraded to include VDSL and Year 4 & 5 Indicative Fibre plans. As per other posts, the old SAT tool is out of date, being closed down soon and should not be relied upon.

Your address on the Network Upgrade Map is now showing as August 2013 and I think you should rely on that info (but keep checking for changes).
