So, from this map I have optimal VDSL2+ coverage, my sync is at 17.4mbit down, 1.3mbit up, I have a good line from what Snap told me.

I bought a Fritz!Box, and got them to install VDSL - It was finally happening! I would have a fast upload! But, as it turns out we couldn't get the thing to get any sync, Chorus came around and determined the line was fine, marked it as a failed install, put us on another port in the exchange because the port we were connected to was "Faulty" - Ugh, so now I have no internet.

A week later the guys at Snap got another Chorus tech around, they put a central splitter in free of charge and managed to get us sync, but at 14.2mbit down, 500kbit up, I was told to wait a week for the line profile to sort itself out and it didn't.

Snap then put me onto ADSL2+ - offered to refund the Fritz!Box (but I kept it, since they're awesome) so seeing this green makes me a bit disappointed since the exchange is just around the corner (I walk past it nearly every day) - But now this has got me doing prequals on potential houses to see if it's within decent sync range for VDSL.

As for UFB - No such luck at my current address but we're moving out today anyway.

Well im just off lincoln road close to the 1YA radio mast and have UFB, so if anyone wants to get it from me via wifi link, let me know.  Got 3 spare ports on the ONT, as far as im aware these can be activated to any ISP as separate connections?

@snowfly Thanks for that. It doesnt surprise me that we will be left out again. The Ultrafast fibre tool says that I wont have it until Feb 2016 but in saying that I was also told it could be this year too but wont hold my breath. Your lines around there must be bad alright as you are a lot closer to the exchange than me and our rates are 8591 Kbps down and 1040 Kbps up but have a high attenuation of 41 downstream and 19 upstream.

Just outside as well.
And UFB is only going to be rolled out in 3 years :-(

I think we should set up a couple 'geek zone' areas near each major city, and club in to get/be a marvellous user-owned top speed Internet sunspot...

Whose with me? :D

Don't take the Chorus SAT as Gospel. It's outdated and you may have a really good line or a new cabinet has been built. Ask the ISP to do a prequal check and you will know.

I would if

A) I knew your street (unlikely but Glenorchy rd?)

B) If I was old enough
C) If houses were on sale in your street.

mercutio: it's a single direct line (one jack point), it's 14 megabit at the road, and it was 14 megabit inside, it's gone down to 13 megabit now.

will chorus actually fix the lines to the exchange if it's over 10 megabit?  i tried to ask chorus about it when they were here.

600 metres from cabinet, on the same street as the cabinet, on the same side of the road as the cabinet, 17db down, 5.4db up attenuation.  attenuation was slightly less earlier.  although there's two cabinets next to each other.  maybe i'm plugged into one with longer lines on it?

Similar situation to us - about 13db attenuation and only 500 metres from the cabinet (that's copper distance - the chorus planner at work looked it up for me).. CAT5e direct from the lead-in, straight to the comms rack with the modem.

Turns out that the copper on our street is at fault - I forget the exact details, but it's to do with the generation of cable installed in the 70's... That, and that we're at the bottom of the street, so have everyone else tapping off before us. Haven't bothered trying to get VDSL, as I'm not convinced it'll work, and I don't want to upset my current ISP account that has a /29 routed home ;)

Sorry mate, I live in Palmerston North.
There have been a few houses sold in the 3.5 years we've lived in this street.

I haven't signed up for fibre. There are very few ISPs offering it in my area presently. We get about 18mbps on ADSL2 so that's pretty good speed for us.

The house I used to live in a month ago gave me awesome 28 Mbps down and 4 up with VDLSL2+.... I still own it and am considering making this my parents house and moving back....

I live out in the country but apparently [1] get very good line rates. What confuses me is that given my SAT map below, why does snap say I can get VDSL at my address? Are they more accurate than the SAT map?
