Hi All, I am & have been a Orcon customer for 5 years now however recently I noticed that during peak times I am unable to watch any streams that are 1080p or 720p. The stream just lags like crazy in non peak times the stream with 10k viewers is fine. I had a mate or mine that is with Snap have a look and he had the same problem as well as another mate who is in a different exchange with Orcon, same issue. Is this something as a whole that all ISP's are facing at the moment? I assume its congestion? or Is it something particular to these two providers? Site: http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/League%20of%20Legends I mostly watch live streams and not recorded ones. Any information in regards to this would be good. I am happy to change ISP's if the issue can be solved but want to make sure it is ISP related and not as a whole. Thanks. Playing: -> Guild Wars 2 -> League of Legends

A quick google suggests you'll need around 1.5-2Mbps down to watch 1080p. I would expect my TC cable to have no problems with that, but it depends on your connection, what CDN they use (if any), that sort of thing. I've never really tried to watch an overseas 1080p stream, but I expect it would be a bit challenging. Asus eee pad transformer iPod 2G Windows 7 PC Lots and lots of Nikon camera gear

would be very surprised if compression was good enough to watch a 1080p stream on only 2Mbps. for comparison, Netflix, which has excellent compression, requires 5Mbps for 720p and 7Mbps for 1080p. getting 7Mbps to a US location at peak times is pretty unlikely on most ISPs in NZ I would say.

Ahh sorry I should have said what my speed currently is. I get 15MB Down and 800KB Up. (got from speedtest.net) - with Orcon Genius. The thing is outside the peak times I have no issues viewing it in 1080p....the problem is however that's the time that I guess most users are home and are using the internet on my exchange. But I find it a bit strange that 2 ISP's have the same issue....not sure if its wide spread or only to a selected few. Playing: -> Guild Wars 2 -> League of Legends

Can you do a speed test during peak time? If that comes back ok then they don't have enough backhaul to support all their users at this sort of bandwidth level. If you can tell me how (and it's easy) I can tell you how it works on TelstraClear during peak times. In general on TC cable I can get the same download speeds no matter what time of the day it is. Are you in Auckland? There seems to be some kind of cross ISP peak time congestion problem in some suburbs.
