VERY IMPORTANT: Could any of you please get the six digits code so we can report to LogMeIn and see if we can track down these scammers?

Heh I would love that 6 digit code, everyone just need to make a sandboxed VM so we can mess with them.

Yes, I have a VM here just waiting for a call... But if we get the six digit code I can report to LogMeIn and see if they can identify who the scammers are.

The 6 digit code they requested from me is the last 6 digits (without the hyphen) of the Registered to : number on the general tab of System Properties Window.

Ok, so they asked for the digits - they didn't tell you the digits, right?

This means they are no generating it. It should still be easy to track once the code is used. That's why I got a VM ready to rock'n'roll here...

Thats correct.

If anyone here with a VM wants to play, I can give your phone number to the scammers if they happen to call me again?

madaz, stop being such a greedy bugger, getting all these calls. Do you think they will call a cellphone? I, sadly, don't have a landline. I even have my mac ready and waiting for their call...

This calls for a competition. Who can keep them on the phone longest!

I may never get the call because they might actually be smart enough to look up peoples details in Google and theyll find my business website advertising computer services....

Few questions...

When they call, do they ask for anyone in particular by name or is it just "do you have a computer"

Is it just XP users they try this on ? Havent heard of anyone with Win7 being asked to do anything yet....

Anyone tried following their directions and when you get to the "goto logmein123.com" part, ask them to ring back on your mobile as youve only got dialup and theyre talking to you on that line ? :)

ZollyMonsta: Ok my theory might be wrong
Are you listed in the whitepages? Maybe they Are going through the phonebook randomly.
We've not got a call from them, but we have an unlisted number.

We too have an unlisted number and I never give it out to anyone. I have no idea how they got it. Unless world exchange leaked it somehow. You aren't on vfx by chance?

They knew my name so Im guessing they used a phone book to get my ph number, I dont think they are targeting XP only as they never asked me what OS Im running.

The first time they called me I played along until I got to the enter www.logmein123.com into the run box before lying to them that I didn't have an internet connection.

They still called me 2 more times without any apparent memory of what I told them in the previous calls.
