Hey Guys,

So I think I might actually do it - I currently have a Sensation and have been a avid Android user for 4 years now (Yes, I had the HTC Dream) - Before I open up the box on this Nokia 800 I am just wondering a few things:

What's the best Twitter / Foursquare client on WP7 at the moment? I'm really needing something that's quick like Tweakdeck for Android.

For those who live in Christchurch, there is a Christchurch Metro app for Android, this comes in blimmin' handy - I suppose I can make tiles for each stop but is there anything out there to streamline it?

Ringtones, Message Tones - I work in a Telecom Retail Store, it could be suboptimal having the same ringtones as my customers, the last time I used WP7 you couldn't set custom ringtones, but I guess this is fixed now..

Any other "cool" apps people can recommend?

Plus, do you have to use the Zune software? I want to get away from having to use 1 app to sync everything.

Churs!

You should really read TelecomTech, in special the two or three posts about the social integration...

You've got to use Zune.  There's no Metro app.  Not yet anyway.  You should have a good look in the Marketplace before you make your final decision.

There's alternatives to the official Twitter app.  Google Play have more free alternative apps than what I've found in the Marketplace.  But the Marketplace apps are significantly smaller in size.  Which is important when there's no expandable storage on the phone.

Foursquare is fine.

I can't get other ring tones to work.  But there are apps in the Marketplace that supposedly allow for this.  Just didn't work for me.  Maybe I messed up somewhere.

I've just written a series of 3 posts, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  I've only just submitted them so they wont be published for a while, but it's an honest look at my experience, and the comparison to my use of an Android device.

Twitter, I personally use the built in integration that's in the OS. Works well for me. Else Carbon and Rowi are two of the most popular twitter clients on Windows Phone.

Foursquare, I personally use 4th & Mayor which is free else the official Foursquare client is also available from the Windows Phone marketplace.

Also recommend AppFlow App Discovery.

Few ringtones app available now as well that let you download free ringtones. Also instructions available on Windowsphone.com website on how to set custom ringtones.

You can also browse the entire Windows Phone marketplace and download apps straight from the web to your device OTA via Windowsphone.com

Rowi for Twitter, but most notifications from People Hub.

Gave up on Foursquare months ago. Too long to get app running, GPS fix, find place, see who is around, checkin. And that's in any smartphone not only Windows Phone. So much wasted time I just decided it's not worth it.

I use a mix of what everyone else has suggested.

People hub for FB and Twitter notifications.
4th & Mayor for Foursquare, VERY quick and free
Carbon for Twitter ($2.99) very quick, inline images and videos, conversations view
Nokia Transport for public transport although Christchurch isn't currently supported

You can set custom ringtones (a few steps required http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-nz/howto/wp7/start/create-ringtones.aspx) but not custom message alerts, notifications, or alarms. Not a huge deal for me since the default ones are fine

There's an app for Auckland Bus Stops which was recently entered into a competition, maybe you can ask the author to see if they can write one for Chch ones

Nokia Transport is in the Marketplace now, it works really well in Auckland and Wellington.

Cheers guys, yeah might just go for it but keep my Sensation here /just in case/ - so far the recommend apps are what I am looking for.

Brent: When do you think Nokia Transport will support Christchurch? Might otherwise have to write my own.

The Skydrive app is handy. I also use TuneIn Radio a lot.
