Still happening with me. Worked for a little bit after changing to direct.telecom.co.nz but is now coming up with same error. It does work when I connect through WiFi. I am using a lumia 710.

Hi,
How you modified the APN, via Network Setup application?
If not, please do so inn Network Setup with 1.6.0.0 version. THere is no this function in 1.4.0.0 version.
  1. please go to Network Setup to add one apn manually by clicking the + icon
  • Connection name:                                           TNZ I
  • Check make this my current APN
  • Access point name:                                         wap.telecom.co.nz
  • Leave others blank
MMS APN:
  • MMS access point name:                             wap.telecom.co.nz
  • Proxy address:                                                  210.55.11.73
  • Proxy port:                                                         8080
  • MMSC address:                                               http://lsmmsc.xtra.co.nz
  • Click Save button
  1. Restart the phone
  2. Try to download applications from Marketplace via mobile internet to see if the problem has gone.

Hope it will work normally.

With Network Setup, at least it's very clear to make sure which APN's working :)

Yes TNZ Lumia have the Network Setup application installed out of the box. (When first turned on it is installed)  Can then be updated through the marketplace.

You can easily change the APN on Settings | Mobile Network | Edit APN. The app is good for those networks where you have no idea of settings.

I use internet.telecom.co.nz because wap.telecom.co.nz seems to give a different IP address for each request - which causes some trouble when you have sites or services that don't like IP address changes.

Settings | Mobile Network | Edit APN, this way can only add a secondary APN, if you want to change the primary APN, Network Setup application (version >1.4.0.0, like 1.6.0.0) shoudl be used.

Sounds like Marketplace is working via WiFI... Anyone can't do that?

He was being sarcastic. Windows Phone Marketplace does work via WiFi.

For the record, updated APN using the Network app as suggested and managed to download/install four apps without problems.

While we investigate the issue with the Martket place via the default WAP APN,
you can as suggested here use the Network Setup tool (needs to be ver 1.6.xx update via Wifi) to add the internet.telecom.co.nz APN and use it as default.

Still no update on this, really getting a bit annoying now not being able to access the marketplace?

Have you tried creating a new APN through the Network app? While it's not a fix it seems to be a valid workaround...

Same problem seems to affect IM presence as well. Switching to internet.telecom.co.nz fixes this.

By the way, is anything needed in the MMS APN settings?
