bspain: WP8 launch was a big deal for Microsoft and Nokia, a BIG deal. For Telecom, maybe not so much at all. But with two massive companies like Nokia and Microsoft launching their premiere products you would've thought it would've been pretty big in terms of publicity and the organization of the launch would have been sorted. Its like they left it all up to Telecom and Telecom really doesnt care.

Maybe NZ market is too small for them to be involved directly?

I don't do the Face of Book so haven't read the comments there.  From what you've said it looks like Telecom didn't get it's act together very well, can you blame Nokia for that?

Yes, absolutely. It's up to Nokia to manage the launch and promotion of their products, including following the full process through with all agencies and carries etc. These things have to be driven by the company wanting the promotion. If I were Stephen Elop and my marketing manager just sat there and said 'nothing to do with me', I'd fire him/her.

That page on Dick Smiths is still showing an iPhone in place of the Lumia... and again, Nokia NZ should be on their case about it. I would be.

And also bizarre is the Fatboy charging pillow being sold at Noel Leemings without a single Lumia 920/820 in sight. It's like the store buyers are just picking stuff randomly off a list. They have no idea what to buy because Nokia NZ isn't engaging with them and sorting it out... meanwhile their Phone hub page is 50% iPhone advertorial. Obviously Apple is on their case.

One can't rely on shop staff to run one's promotions. They may carry it out, but they don't create or drive it.

Just ranting :)

What about the accessories? I wouldn't mind a pair of the purity earphones but I can't find any locally. How about a wireless charger or NFC speakers?

I ended up buying my Purity earbuds off Amazon a few months ago and did an unboxing.

They are very good and also physically of very high quality. They also perform even better now that the Lumia 920 has an EQ in it.

Fire a question off on the Nokia FB page and ask them why there are still no accessories around a year after the Lumias were officially made available in NZ.

There is a nokia NZ, I use to work for them.  But that was years ago (2003/2004) and the country manager was "interesting".  The people back then had a "i'm great because i work for nokia" and "don't you know who i am" thing about them.

If it is still run like that then i can total understand why nothing happen in NZ, it's just the way Nokia NZ are.

Nokia AU was much more fun when I was there, a real "lets get this working" feel to the team, here in NZ it was more "get out of my way as I am better than you"

I just thought of something and tested it... Windows 8 has no Desktop Passthrough.

If you don't know Desktop Passthrough is that handy feature that allows your Windows Mobile (ActiveSync and WMDC) and Windows Phone to access the network through your PC's connection when plugged via USB.

There is very much a presence within NZ.

We are far from what MrToken has made out and has never been like that in the 5 years I've worked within the local team.

It's great to see we have many passionate users who want to see us succeed as much as we do.

nathan: It would be helpful to detail some app updates you notice this on please

Nokia City Lens came through the day I purchased the phone (Thu 22nd Nov)
All other apps that are part of the Nokia Collection in the Store that had updates (Maps, Creative Studio, etc) came through today as did others not available in the app list such as Network+, Extras+info and Feedback to Nokia

Thanks for the info, its been useful

One more question, what is your phone doing at midnight? Is it switched off? Is the flight mode on or WiFi or Telco data turned off at midnight night ever or midnight the first night you got it at all?

Why what happens at midnight?

I am planning on getting a win8 phone soon but my will be in flight mode at midnight, if this is when it checks for updates then i might need to think about flight mode
