I saw VF has the 8S here

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/coming-soon/

So I guess that is a given.

Google search of "Nokia Lumia 820 Vodafone NZ" brings a lot of results about how to use it, which means VF will be bringing us the 820, but no luck with the 920. Maybe Telecom will flagship the 920 and VF will flagship the 8x?

2degrees says the 920 is a maybe.

I really want an idea about the availability timeframe or if I should just go through an importer.

Could someone with a WP8 phone please confirm whether IE on WP8 supports URLs with alternate ports (eg http://servername:8080). I currently have a Lumia 710 and the inability to use websites on non standard ports is my only thing holding me back from being sure I want to stay with Windows Phone.

I saw the below post over at WPCentral:

http://forums.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-8-os-discussion/202186.htm

After trying out the beta release just now, I've found that:

- Receiving calls when the device is in standby works fine, over WIFI and LTE.
- The UI is pretty responsible
- Text messages can be received in standby as well (via toast notification)
- Voice and video over LTE is pretty fluid! Thanks to the Lumia 920 microphone, my voice gets delivered with limited distortion. To test the fidelity I've tried playing the violin over Skype, it's pretty clear as well. Compression noise is virtually nonexistent.

What's missing:
- I have yet to see log off or switch account. Once you sign in, you are IN for good. There's an option to be invisible though.
- When you receive a call, there's an option to answer or ignore via the OS's call UI. Once you choose to answer, you are presented with two further buttons: mute and turn on video. However, there's no "turn off speaker and use ear piece" option. If you want to have a private conversation over skype, you'd have to first go through the speaker, then hit the windows button, then hit back. At this point the call UI presents you with two more buttons, one of which is to turn off the speaker.
Note: I've just found out that if the other party initiates a voice call, then you'll answer it with ear piece, with the option of turning the video on and the speaker on separately.
- The settings menu is a joke :) But then I don't know what settings I would put in there really.

Does this mean that the WIFI will stay on/active, even when the phone is in standby?

After reading about the Nokia Lumia 920 im tempted to switch from Android/SGS3, not sure why I just like the look of the 920s Hardware. However one major concern I have is the amount of apps compared to Android. I just browsed windowsphone.com and there isn't really that many. Should I be worried? lol

I am okay with waiting for a specified amount of time, but not when the wait is indeterminable.

I believe at the moment WIFI turns off when in standby, but joe belfiore confirmed over twitter that a fix is coming

Looks like Clove has stock now: http://www.clove.co.uk/nokia-lumia-920

Have given up on the Lumia 920. I feel that it has been too long for any info for release dates in NZ and pricing. Have purchased 2 x iPhone 5 for the wife and I. At least now I will have an estimated delivery of 3-4 weeks for my new phone.

There are over 110K apps now in the marketplace, most people have found equivalent apps that they use often on the Windows Phone market. If you have any specific requirements I'm sure one of us can make some suggestions.

Developing apps is also very straightforward, I've got 3 apps in the marketplace, so if its something that's missing I could look into doing something for you.
