mrtoken: Can a couple of you do me a big fav.

Can you upload a few pics of the different colours of the home screen live tiles.

I have a htc 8s work phone here and the colours look crap (the lumia 800 looks loads better).

I want to see if its WP8 or just the crap htc screen.

This is the deal breaker on what phone i buy, if the lumia is the same as the htc then i will just get the htc.

Lumia 800 has an AMOLED display with Clear black display tech on their screens. It's going to look better than a mid range phone. I had a play with HTC 8S today and the colours looked great to me. I could not see the pixels on those tiles even though the resolution is set to 800 x 480 on the display.

BrentR: Regarding accessories.

We'll only have limited quantities of the DT-900 charging plate available initially through Telecom's website.

I'm up for that!

Cheers for that.

Next question, as the htc 8s has "very" limit on device storage does anyone know if xbox music "offline" music mode can store the music on SD Card?

Side by side with a Lumia 920, the Lumia 800 screen is far more colourful, has 100% black blacks and gives a much snappier appearance. That's just the way it is with AMOLED displays and I was also somewhat disappointed at first.

On the other hand, if you're not comparing side by side, the 920 is bright and snappy and colourful all the same. Ultimately the 920 screen is much more accurate than the 920 and so I'm quite happy with it. The 920 is also always bright enough - the auto-brightness picks the right value. It also overdrives the display in bright sunlight so that you can still see everything perfectly, even though it looks as bit weird.

AMOLEDs are cool to look at but they aren't accurate like the LCD.. that's basically the difference.
I'm assuming the HTC doesn't have an AMOLED display.

nakedmolerat: Anyone putting their Lumia in a case?

Just ordered mine Lumia 920 Commuter Case

Yesterday I had my Lumia 920 in my hands and a boy bumped me, causing the handset to fall, hitting the asphalt. Not a high drop as I slowed it down with my leg but still can see a couple of scratches in one corner (now that the grit is gone it's no so visible but you can feel). The glass is intact.

I ordered the Otterbox Commuter just after that, from the phone itself. I hope to have it here soon :)

Bugger

I dropped my phone when someone was handing it back to me, wasn't far and landed on paper on a desk so no damage.

The other day I left my phone in the microfibre pouch on the coffee table, I came back to find it by the dining table. One of the cats picked up the pouch and took it for a walk, lol, luckily no damage again

It's made me think about a case as despite being a matte finish the phone can be quite slippery

freitasm: I was told yesterday some accessories, including a wireless charger, would be available from next week on Telecom's web site.

I've had a good dig around Telecom's website to try and keep an eye out for these, and it's impossible to find any accessories for any phone on there. They either don't sell any accessories or their website is rubbish.

Agreed - Telecom website needs some serious work.

Phoned Telecom Albany today and they had no idea when they will be in.

Found a charging plate on expansys.co.nz but it is over $100 with postage. Bit pricey.

They will appear online when available. Retail stores might have no idea as the information I am passing wasn't public.

There does not appear to be anywhere obvious on the Telecom website to look for accessories.

Other phone company websites I have visited have an Accessories tab where you can choose your phone to see accessories.

Selecting a phone e.g. iPhone 5 does not seem to have a tab or link to see accessories.

Badboy2303: As per Bring back native Maps on Nokia Windows Phones

This didn't work for me.  What it *did* do was bring back the old Maps look.  But it still shows Nokia Maps data.

Indeed, now, when I look up a contact, I have now gone back to the Nokia Map data, even though the old Maps look is there.

So dunno if it was installing this app.  I removed it, but it made no difference.

Wanting to have up-to-date map data, I have installed "Advanced Maps Viewer" - dunno what data source it is, I think it might be Google - but at least I now have reasonably current map data.

Anyone having any problems with push e-mail? - Exchange Server?

I have noticed in the last few days that my phone seems to be polling (15mins or so) rather than "as items arrive".

This worked just fine on both my Android and Samsung Focus. Same account, same server, new phone, hmmm.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Duncan.

No problems, but check that your exchange server doesn't limit number of devices configured against an account. Office 365 for example limits to ten devices - I had to go online and delete some old ones when my previous Windows Phone couldn't register with the server.
