freitasm: Shame really that Messenger is gone so the "Online Messaging" is really just Facebook.

I said before, the whole "People" in Windows Phone 8 should be plugin based so new platforms could be added without the need of a OS update.

For example, right now they should have Skype users in that list, as well as Facebook and Messenger (which is gone). Instead we have a half baked Skype experience (I don't get notifications of incoming IM or incoming calls) and a half baked Facebook experience.

Online messaging does include Messenger, not just Facebook

There is a Skype update coming soon, I'm running the beta and toast notifications for incoming IM and Skype calls are working fine

I've re-added it - nope, still in a 15 minute polling mode.

Other people are working fine on the same server - indeed, *I*, was too, before I changed phones. :(

What does this mean?

And it was bad at release and now it's worse?

Do you see the same thing on other 920s?

If not I'd be returning it to your retailer for replacement or repair

Would agree with Nathan. Scrolling is beautiful on the 920 - and still is post Portico. Indeed I reckon the phone is faster on transitions now, makes it seem snappier overall. Like that.

Honestly it sounds like something else, not the phone

What else changed?

Same telco?
Same sim?
Same Internet APN?

Same telco, sim changed to micro-sim (obviously :) - same internet APN.

In short, nothing changed AFAIK.

DuncanMcC: One thing I hoped Portico might fix (reset) was my Exchange connection. It's still set to 'push' - but just polls every 15 minutes, as it's always done on my 920.

This happenned after I changed phones from my Samsung i917.

I guess what I'd like to do is completly remove my Exhchange connection/profile - and hopefully on re-connecting it will pick it up from scratch again, and start "push"ing - instead of polling like it is.

But I don't know how to do that.

I've already disconnected the phone from Exchange, turned off the Exchange "Mobile Serivies" - everything. And then re-connected, but to no avail.

I will bet money on the fact that this is nothing to do with WP but your infra

In my experience this is usually down to time out settings on perimeter devices like firewalls in regards to inactive HTTP connections. If this is set too low then you will have this behavior.
Your point that it works with Android and not with Windows Phone 8 is all about how direct push is implemented.  Windows Phone is far more optimised with EAS to save power and data, we try to setup a  ping interval based on handshake with the server and will try to get as close as 8 minutes between the pings as possible, it might be longer.

iPhone and Android implement their own way of doing this which is different, normally hardcoded into the device based on a fix number not variable like WP

So check your timeout settings for inactive HTTP connections on Firewall regardless if this worked with Android devices before. If there is a timeout value set below 8 minutes then this have to be raised to 31 minutes to make sure that the firewall does not kill the connection.

The fallback if this happens is 15 minutes scheduled synch so it fits the bill based on what you are seeing

I hope this helps

Nathan is correct and pretty much what I suggested before. The fact it works with other devices doesn't mean it's a problem with Windows Phone, but still can point to something in your infrastructure (firewalls and routers are the likely culprits).

I forgot to make this comment before and maybe it requires its own thread Its regarding the nokia suite software.
I have a simple nokia co1 I think it is sitting beside my desk constantly connected to my computer. It connects to nokia suite and it allows me to type a txt message on my computer and send it THROUGH the phone and it syncs all the txt messages back and forth.
This is the only piece of software I have come across that does this well.

So my question is Nokia and Microsoft why not develop nokia suite for Lumia ?

Or am I the only one that likes sending Txt this way

freitasm: Could anyone on Telecom please try paying for public parking via SMS after the update?

I tried three different machines this morning. All attempts came back with a SMS reply saying "Please use correct code".

SMS to phones seems to be working. Not sure it is a glitch with Telecom, DPS or if the phone is still sending SMS with wrong encoding.

Well I tried paying for parking via TXT yesterday and it failed to send the sms...  Tried three times, no joy.

So this looks like an issue with the MS SMS message format [somehow...]

Failed to send or got back a message saying "invalid code"? Mine sent the SMS just fine but didn't like the content it seems.

Nokia has some good features for example like you describe with Nokia Suite.  I have used the txt feature on Nokia Suite though not often, it sure works well though.  I like Nokia Suite for syching the phone with my computer, it even has a very handy Bluetooth function allowing synching without using cables.

Microsoft certainly don't appear to be leaders with functionality, especially after reading some of the new features in the Portico update, features that used to standard fare for older Nokia phones.

That said I suspect Microsoft will drive the features on Windows Phone and will want everyone to use the Microsoft options and I fear there will be no development put into the features you've asked about or for Nokia Suite for Windows phones.
