coddy:
freitasm: Failed to send or got back a message saying "invalid code"? Mine sent the SMS just fine but didn't like the content it seems.

Got "Can't send message Try Again"
I am on 2Degrees.

I don't think you can pay parking via 2degrees SMS anyway.

Yup, you are right - justed checked their web site http://www.rentapark.co.nz/machineless-txt-a-park/
And the fine print says "2degrees availability pending"

Wonder how long that has been "pending"??!  First time I tried txt-a-park since swapping to 2degrees...

One of the reasons I haven't moved to 2degrees.

Anyway, I will probably test the SMS parking again in town this week - and might change the Character Set on SMS if it fails to check.

Technofreak:
I forgot to make this comment before and maybe it requires its own thread Its regarding the nokia suite software.
I have a simple nokia co1 I think it is sitting beside my desk constantly connected to my computer. It connects to nokia suite and it allows me to type a txt message on my computer and send it THROUGH the phone and it syncs all the txt messages back and forth.
This is the only piece of software I have come across that does this well.

So my question is Nokia and Microsoft why not develop nokia suite for Lumia ?

Or am I the only one that likes sending Txt this way

Nokia has some good features for example like you describe with Nokia Suite.  I have used the txt feature on Nokia Suite though not often, it sure works well though.  I like Nokia Suite for syching the phone with my computer, it even has a very handy Bluetooth function allowing synching without using cables.

Microsoft certainly don't appear to be leaders with functionality, especially after reading some of the new features in the Portico update, features that used to standard fare for older Nokia phones.

That said I suspect Microsoft will drive the features on Windows Phone and will want everyone to use the Microsoft options and I fear there will be no development put into the features you've asked about or for Nokia Suite for Windows phones.

How much of a need is there really for something like Nokia suite? IMO these suites are all but obsolete these days, my phonebook/contacts are maintained via my email address book not locally on the phone, documents are kept on SkyDrive, photos and videos are automatically uploaded to SkyDrive so all I have to do is purge off phone every now and then, apps and texts are backed up automatically in the cloud.

The windowphone for PC app covers the basic control, to be honest the only time I use it is to move music around although even that can be handled via file explorer.

A potentially dumb question from a newbie:

If I purchase a Lumia 920 and use it on the Vodafone network will I have any issues receiving updates, given that the 920 isn't officially offered by Vodafone?  Any other issues I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance :)

updates are controlled by the Telco image on the device, if you don't want them to control what updates you receive by an open market/unbranded one (ie import one from overseas)

talk about experience and this is what I have experienced so far. Bought a red 920 less than 2 weeks ago. Had some issues and spoke to telegistics who said this needs to be booked early life failure so go back to your retailer and they will organise a replacement for you. Went back to warehouse stationery last week who sent my phone in. Today I get a call that red one is out of stock and there is no further stock coming in so my options are either take a black one or take a refund as brightstar cant supply them with a red or a yellow one but have heaps of black ones. Oh and also if I want the black one I need to return the wireless charger which doesnt come with the black one.

Shouldn't matter at all that you are on Vodafone, the Telco may have input on the release of the update but they don't actually deliver the update that's done either by the phone manufacturer or the OS supplier and usually done "Over The Air" (OTA) and usually best done via WiFi to keep your mobile data charges down.

The phone will tell you when there's an update no matter which Telco you use.

Well I guess you need to decide if the black one is OK.  I'm not sure which option I'd go for though I'd be mightily pissed at the fact they aren't prepared to get a replacement Red one since that's what you bought to start with.  Personally I prefer Black but for those that want Red or Yellow I can see Black not really fitting the bill.

As for asking for return of the charging plate if you take the Black one, I know what my answer to that would be.  Have sex and travel!!!!

I would probably be nice and give one of two replies," Sorry I gave it to a friend who has since gone over seas" or

"You must be joking, you cannot supply the correct replacement phone and yet you want me to return the charging plate? I think the least you can do in this instance is forget about the plate all together.

I'd get my money back and run to buy it off Telecom. If you initially wanted a yellow or red one you won't be happy with a black one. It might take a few days but its better than having a phone for god only knows how long you have it which you dislike. It took a bit of time to get my yellow one but I'm pleased it did. It much nicer than a generic black colored phone.

Isn't Brightstar the outfit that Telecom sources all of their phones thru?  If so and they cannot/will not supply Warehouse Stationary how will they supply Telecom?

Before you return the charging plate make sure you can get what you want elsewhere.

Thanks for the response guys. I am going to try and find a red one tomorrow at a telecom store first and then go from there.

Telecom has a carrier exclusive deal in NZ for the Lumia 920 and thus they have allocation priority for stock, there is a shortage of yellow and red but telecom has priority from what I have been told.

Apparently the reason that warehouse stationery has given me is that brightstar has told them that they dont have any allocations for them.
