Regs: if you're impatient, and can't handle the cable trick, you can always try this at your own risk: http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/want_windows_phone_7.8_now_try_this_easy_tool-01-31-13

according to the website:
This tool will install the official, RTM Windows Phone 7.8 update today, right now. It's easy. Just click Install 7.8, then select the desired language packages. Then wait.

this is, by far, the easiest method :-D  (i have done this on a couple of phones - a lumia 800 and a lumia 900)

That tool will put the OS on but not any hardware specific updates, if there are any, for your specific device. Just be aware of that

every WP7.5 sold in NZ will have received the 7.8 update notification within a few days from now

I've never recieved a Nokia update on my parallel import on the 2D network. I keep blaming the region, but then again, if Asia allowed the update before hand I should have recieved it first.

its all about the carrier image on the phone when you got it

nothing to do with it being in New Zealand or being on 2D

I have no idea how to identify that.

find out as per these instructions:

Regs:
Incindre: So, what's the score with 2degrees and the 7.8 update?
I have a parallel imported Lumia 800 on 2Deg's and Zune constantly tells me I'm up to date.

if its not a phone you bought from 2degrees then its nothing to do with them.   What carrier is registered in  settings/about/phone carrier?

I've got an imported Lumia 800 too, running on Vodafone. I'm not getting the 7.8 update (trying with the OSX software on my MacBook)

I've gone into settings/about and there's no mention of a phone carrier - even after clicking "more information"

:(

Where are the phones from overseas?

is there any physical branding on it or any carrier specific installed apps when you got it?

Looking back on the emails I received when I bought it, the phone was shipped by EXPANSYS (Hong Kong) Limited

So I guess it was initially from a carrier in Hong Kong?

The default factory language on mine is Korean I think, that is really all I can say.  There is nothing else to brand it otherwise as far as I can see.

Ditto - although I do have an NZ (Akl) phone number listed as as the Help Contacts.

HTC Trophy, from VF. Does have VF splash at bootup.

I have a Nokia splash followed with the Windows boot logo for 7.8.

I have however found the official origin with my phone based on the 059 number on the SIM card tray.  Mine is 059M5P6, which apparently means it is licensed in Taiwan.  Must be associated with some Taiwanese carrier then?

No idea how this would effect update roll out.  If anything I should have received the update sooner as the updates would have been rolled out in that country before here.  If I remember correctly, the last major update was available there long before any NZ carrier approved it for release.

the VF Trophy will receive the update, if you haven't received the update notification already, you should get it within the next week

cheers nathan
