Ok now i do suggest getting it from dick smith

It's online with telecom http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/personal/phone-details/htc-windows-phone-8s-black/our-picks

However its $499 from them (same price as harvey norman)

So much for a RRP of 449

my brother tried vodafone, they wouldn't price match. offered credit or discount if went on contract.

he tried dick smith, but the guy wouldnt do a better deal than the $409. But he probably didnt try to haggle enough, as he went back to vodafone and bought it for $450, which i think is nuts....

warehousestationary has it for $399, so you should get dicksmith down to at least that.

Got one of these in for work. First impressions are that its ok, not bad for the price. Unit is a little bit bigger then the old HTC trophy and maybe a tiny bit lighter. Screen looks good and response seems ok although it does seem to lag every now and again when typing and then it suddenly catches up. Considering replacing our remaining blackberry users (i.e those who dont warrant an iPhone) with these so I can turn our BES servers off. For $400 I say thumbs up.

I agree, for the price they are a great little phone, would have been happier if they came with 8gig and a little more ram but you can't have everything.

just hope that spotify wp8 app lets you save to SD card, i find xbox music a pain

so far im loving this phone. been on iphone since the day iPhone 3G came out, was using a white iPhone 4 until yesterday.

its way lighter than the iphone 4 (amazingly so), its locked up on me once (was using it all day yesterday, probably just a once off kinda thing), camera is so so (not great, but not bad either, worse than iPhone 4 probably, seems a little slow). loving live tiles and the "people" integration ("linking" google contacts to facebook contacts).

personally i so far prefer it to my iphone, maybe i just got tired of iOS and like the change. some missing apps
- vodafone (but they have a mobile website which is fine for now)
- trademe (same deal, mobile site, but would like push notifications with a real app, since i was selling my iphone 4 on TM and wanted to answer questions quickly :) sold iphone 4 for $450 and this cost me $380 so im happy)
- only ASB bank app available, im not with them, maybe ill swap :)
- no google+ (apparently coming) i used this on my iphone to get all my photos into google, using skydrive atm, but liked everything in google as thats my email provider
- no google authenticator (i use 2 step password verification), but there is a 3rd party one that works well, just want an official one
- theres a geekzone app :)

battery life isnt as good as iphone 4 (but i was playing with it all day yesterday, for hours and hours)

gamer points to your xbox account, nice little feature. I would like to be able to link my friends on xbox to my contacts in the "peoples" hub, so i can keep up to date with what theyre playing etc.

hardware wise, i prefer the feel and weight of the htc over the iphone. but WP8 is missing some apps, but theyre ones that hopefully will come out pretty quickly (as theyre from big companies) and nothing i cant live without (most provide a web version of their site which gets you buy and sometimes just as good).

so im a happy customer :)

and just bought a 16GB microsd card, so now plenty of storage, personally I like saving money on phone because of limited storage if I can just use a microsd card.

I have had a few people comment over the last few days saying things like "what phone is that" and "that's a really nice phone"

mrtoken:
reven: yeah i just said to the guy "Can you do it for $380, someone on geekzone said they got it at that price from dick smith", he played with his computer for a bit and said "Sure"

sounds like the white ones are better (they do 850/900/2100) where the blue (vodafone) only does 900/2100

And never pay retail, always ask for a discount, worst they can say is no.

good to know this!

thanks

Price going up to $469, still at $409 online at the moment however

Today I had a 30 second play with one of these at a Telecom store and i have to say i was rather impressed. As my WP8 experience is limited to the Nokia 920 I was keen to see how a phone that was half the price and from a different manufacturer felt in comparison and i have to say I was surprised at how good the 8S felt

The main issue I have with the 8S is the lack of space for installed applications. Out of the box only about 1.5GB is free. Install 6 games or so and it's full. Is there a way to install apps on the SD card? I've seen reference to installing from an SD card, but not installing onto one. I hope that feature becomes available as it would extend the usability of the phone a fair bit.

Yes i am hoping the spotify app (when its released) will let me save songs to SD otherwise i am going to have to stay with xbox music which is a bit crap.

yeah the space is a bit annoying, but its aimed at "normal" users not power users.

personally i can live with the small space as ive only really kept apps I actually use regular, not one to just install app after app.

my apps basically include (not all avaiable on WP8 yet, but theres are the ones ill only use)
- bank
- twitter
- facebook
- g+
- vodafone
- trademe
- xbmc remote
- 1 or 2 games
so 4gb will let me install those and still have around 500mb free space. all music and photos can go on the sd card.

but yes would be nice if u could install to SD card (wp8 may add this, you never know)

I use webapps a bit  so that cuts down on the space needed. It'd be less annoying if there was a way to manage the space. Currently there's no way to know what apps are taking up the most installed space so I could make an informed decision on which ones to remove.

I like how Grooveshark's HTML 5 interface works with WP8. If you go to html5.grooveshark.com and play a song it uses HTML 5 audio. This integrates with the phone so when you switch away from the browser it continues to play, volume controls will show a drop down for the song, and the lock screen has controls for it.
