Fine, but don't use a straw man argument to defend your position.

What amuses me most is the hapless generation that are today said to be useless at this new fangled gadgets are the very generation that brought these gadgets to the younger generation and the same generation that head many of the design teams.

Interesting. You're afraid of insects and women. Ladybugs must render you catatonic.

That's not on topic at all

You're generalising. (Edit: It's actually Tiny Tim who's generalisng) So far as some of these report/surveys go, the famous phrase springs to mind, "There's Lies, There's Damn Lies and then There's Statistics".  You can set out to prove almost anything.

To get back on topic.

There's a thread that's been running since May 2012 on an overseas forum titled "Where will you go when Symbian dies?"

Interestingly WP hardly gets a mention as an OS that Symbian users would move too.  One of the few posters who said that would choose WP said this.

Well difficult decision.

As I will NEVER EVER buy an apple device and Android on my tablet sucks I probably will also go for WP8.5

But only if it is SIGNIFICANTLY more advanced than WP7.5.

Because my 6230 was better than WP7.5...

Nokia are not converting Symbian users to WP, they are sticking with Symbian or going to an OS other than WP.  WP is struggling to convert users from other OS's.

It's hard to say why as it's not a bad OS. I suspect part of the problem, at least from a Symbian user perspective, is, WP7 was way behind Symbian in functionality, as alluded to in the quote above, and to some extent WP8 also.  A new OS that cannot do stuff the old OS can do, why would you change?

I made that exact transition (Symbian^3 to WP8). WP8 is far superior to Symbian for what I use, but I have corporate oriented usage, WiFi hotspot, multiple exchange accounts being primary examples.

As per previous post, I only tried WP because it was on the camera phone I wanted (Nokia N8 to Nokia Lumia 1020).

p.s. I've got iOS and Android also, with a mix of good and bad experiences and would categorise myself as neither fan boy nor hater of either (although I'm sworn off some Android vendors).

The keyboard so far is the most off-putting aspect. I had hoped Nokia would carry N8 Skype into WP, but alas, I'm stuck with the dreadful WP keyboard which is just as bad as it wsd in WO7

Have you managed to get multiple Exchange accounts working under WP8?

I always use the full site on my phone, it seems to have better functionality.

You'd be pretty pissed if you were still using your N8 and relying on using Swype.

The 'nice' people at Swype put a time bomb in the Symbian Swype app causing the app to expire on New Years Eve.

Symbian phone owners awoke on New Years Day to find the phone that was working perfectly the night before would freeze and need continual restarting. The only way to get it to work was to turn off Swype.

There was no warning about the expiry and nothing to indicate that Swype was causing the problems with the phone. I bet there's a few N8's E7's etc lying around because their owners don't know why they won't work.

A big thumbs down to Swype.
