Use the "Microsoft My Phone" software on your phone and back up your important files.
The after you have done you ROM upgrade you can restore you txt messages and other important files.

Here is my check list when I upgrade the Rom

1.       Sync with PC

2.       Disconnect lead and end the Partnership.

3.       Over the WIFI Synchronise Microsoft My Phone.  This stores all the text messages, so we can download them again later.

4.       Do the ROM update

5.       Set the time zone (Start -> Settings -> Clocks & Alarms)

6.       Set the Regional Settings (Start -> Settings -> System)

7.       Synchronise with PC

8.       Setup Wi-Fi

12.   Setup Email

13.   Setup Email Signature

14.   Connect to Microsoft My Phone and restore text messages.
