kendallj: Have an HTC 7 Mozart on order (Aussie Telstra NextG model to run on XT).  Planning to dismantle it and upgrade the microsSD card to 32GB.

Hi,

I really want to get a mozart as I love the trophy's design and form factor but I am on XT and changing isn't an option. So the Telstra NextG versions of the mozart work alright on XT? if so where abouts did you order one from and is there anything I need to look out for when ordering one ?

I assume once it's here it's just a matter of whacking in my existing XT sim and changing the apn or whatever on the phone ?

Apologies for the probably silly questions, and thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers

HTC Hub has an app "Connection Setup" to configure.

But the initial set up on Windows Phone 7 (should be) pretty simple, just make sure the SIM is in-place then turn it on then the device should configure itself.

Hi Larno

Not at all silly questions. I've ordered my Mozart from: http://www.mobicity.co.nz/htc-mozart-nextg.html

It is the identical model supplied to Telstra in oz, definitely unlocked and also supposed to be without carrier specific apps (we shall see).

IIRC they are a parallel import company based in Hong Kong but with NZ based warranty and servicing.

Delivery is reputed to be 5 business days, so I'm expecting my phone at the end of this week or early next.

Telstra's NextG network in oz is practically similar to Telecom's XT. The important bit is the 850Mhz UMTS. The guy I dealt with at the local Telecom store said every NextG phone that has been brought into their store has worked with an XT sim.

Just ordered a Samsung Focus from Amazon Wireless in the US.  I will be picking it up next month while on holiday there.

It's locked to AT&T but I'm confident the community will find a way around this over the coming months (I don't return to NZ until January).

Mozart arrived today after payment of GST and customs clearance fees (total of around $150) to Toll Priority yesterday via credit card. Phone VFD listed as AU$500.

First impressions, solidly built and nicely crafted. Display bright with good contrast and very acceptable viewing angles. Nice phone. No front bezel carrier branding (great), and only a very small and unobtrusive Telstra and NextG logo screen printed on the rear battery cover.

Telecom XT SIM recognized immediately and phone self configured and worked without further configuration (for the basics anyway).

As mentioned in another thread, the phones in this part of the world  seem to preset keyboard layout to UK, so the pound symbol defaults where $ should be, although $ is available elsewhere. No option to change keyboard setting in this release of WP7.

Foxtel and Telstra hub apps de-install without problem.

Planning to leave the microSD card upgrade until certified cards are listed and available.

Enjoying the phone immensely.

Had a look at a fellow MSFTer's Mozart couple of days ago - nice kit with slightly smaller screen than Trophy - but the screen is definitely brighter!

Glad to hear you are enjoying it Smile

If you tap-and-hold the UK Pound key, it will pop up with other currency symbols.

I've just got the HTC Mozart 16GB from www.mobicity.co.nz  I wasn't aware there was a 16GB, but there were a few searches coming up in German.  Phone sourced frm China, and indeed was Deutch on startup, but def 16Gb.

Just getting it up and running now.
