you can hit the '&123' key while you are typing a message to display the $ sign or alternatively you can press and hold the pound key to display the $ sign too.

to jail break your phone, you need to make sure that the version number of the OS on your phone is 7008 or 7004.

xda-developers is a great site to get any help with windows phone OS.

What are you trying to achieve by debranding? Do you want to take the carrier branding off the phone or do you want to side load apps etc?

Have you considered the offical way to unlock the phone and become developer registered for $99? Or if you have access to a student email address you can get it for free through https://www.dreamspark.com

MS will only developer unlock your phone via dreamspark after you have submitted an app in the marketplace.

You just need to submit a fake app to kick off the verification process. That's what I did with my app called "IWantVerification". Not surprisingly it didn't get approved :-) but I got my phone dev unlocked...

I ended up reverting back to the first state before updates then using ChevronWP7 again, worked fine

Just an update again: after doing the "stay unlocked hacks" then updating the unlock stayed in place and everything is fine.
