have a HTC HD7 mobile phone.  I am unable to use "getting directions" function in Bing Maps.  I have Wi-Fi and 3G.  I phoned HTC and they advised I need to check with Microsoft to find out if this product is supported in this region being Auckland, New Zealand.  If it is supported please confirm how I access and use this funtion.  My mobile service provider is vodafone
Thank you for your link to browsing and maps.  This is similar to my instruction manual.  For some reason I do not have a "get directions arrow" at bottom of screen.  I have the "show location" , "search" and "more menue options" but no "get directions arrow". The support team at HTC could not understand why I don't have the "get directions arrow" and suggested I need to check with microsoft to find out if this feature is supported in our region.  I will be very surprised if it is not as I have both the compass and gMaps funtions.  Welcome your further advice.

go to settings, then region and language then change system locale to unites states and browser and search language to united states. keep the region format to new zealand. save settings and reboot the device. run the maps app again and there you have it.

this will not give you voice guided instructions though. free turn by turn will full voice guided instruction will come in the upcoming mango update which should be released in september or october.

if you need a gps app with the full features then download 'turn by turn navigation'. trial is availble for first 20KM else full version is NZ$8.49.

No. I have found 2 great GPS apps so far (both online only at this stage).

GPS Navigator aSpass and Turn by Turn Navigation. Both are under NZ$9 and work great. aSpass dev mentioned that he will try and bring offline capability soon in an upcoming update.

Turn by Turn Navigation has updated their app today and now it lets you download sections of the maps which it stores in cache for next time use. You can use the pen tool to select the entire country if you want or automatically it select the entire city you are in .

Turn By Turn Nav, works good, as said above.

yet to try the other app.

However when you cache turn by turn's maps, they don't look as nice as the "live" maps.

Yep, they looks fugly to me too after caching but this should change when mango releases as devs will have access to SQL CE.

Also Garmin has released their streetpilot app for Windows Phone today. US and Canada maps only at this stage but it's good to know that lack of GPS apps on this platform is being looked at.
