Just wondering: are Groups and Linked Contacts saved anywhere?

What if we move handsets? What if we need to reset the handset? We have to recreate the groups?

Facebook and windows live are. When I flashed mango I had to redo the google links

I think Zune might do it on a restore point but not 100% sure.
