No cheat required. WhatsApp is available in the NZ marketplace. Most of the apps are available here as well except US only services like Netflix.

I actually browse the US store mainly as it has a lot more volume of reviews for apps. There's a link saying "Check my Marketplace" when you're ready to download and it forwards it to the NZ section with the same app.

Yep. It knows I'm in NZ from the live account details.

Dont worry about Skype it is coming, Microsoft have brought Skype remember.

Hey do you guys know if Nokia Lumia 800 works on telecom XT network.  Mobicity says no but I find that hard to believe as I have read telecom are going to be selling this device in February

It works fine on all networks in NZ. It's the Nokia Lumia 710 that doesn't work with Telecom as it doesn't have the 850 band.

There are different variants of the Nokia Lumia 800. Right now, only the Vodafone/2Degrees variant is available in Europe. There is this company in Canada who seems to be selling the XT/AT&T version but I would not take the risk as they might have just copied and pasted the information from GSMarena.

You are better off to wait till mid January which is when Nokia will be announcing the Nokia Lumia 800 and possibly the rumored Nokia Lumia 900 for AT&T and even Verizon (if lucky!). Makes sense which is why Telecom is getting the XT version of the handsets in Feburary (Lumia 800 and Lumia 710)

According to the UK Nokia website (under Hardware) http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/products/phone/lumia800/specifications/ the Lumia 800 works fine on Telecom here. I don't think they're making variants. Actually I have a Telecom SIM at home, will let you guys know by tomorrow for sure.

are you in Auckland by any chance? If so, you are connected via the XT 2100MHz 3G network which is only deployed in main centers and the 3G coverage very low.

even mobicity's Nokia lumia page states only 3G 2100MHz. Need UMTS/3G 850MHz band for a phone to work *properly* on the Telecom XT network.

I checked clove's page as well and they only list Vodafone/2degrees band on their specs page. Same with handtec.co.uk nokia lumia product page.
