Hi, I'm having trouble getting anything more than speculation and semi-references to other sources when trying to replace my current handset with a Windows phone; something I've never tried, but keen to give a go. Does anybody know for sure: Why Voda does not seem to have a Windows handset? Why there actually aren't seemingly a lot of Windows handsets on offer at all, here or abroad; is it just bad marketing, does it suck, is it still too new? Do I click the wrong links on the service providers sales page? I would have expected each service provider to have at least two on offer with or without plans by now. If I have an old handset and want to go to a plan with a Windows handset. Right now, I only seem to have two or three choices as opposed to the tidal wave of Android variations out there. Just posting or sending me useful links is fine. Thanks Gund

There are more launch Windows phones than Android did. Certainly with the entry of Nokia and Sony into the WP7 market I would expect it to pick up. I presume many of nokias future handsets will be windows.

Nokia is making all it's high end WP7 and planning on making it's own OS for low end smartphones. Vodafone is meant to launch Samsung Omnia W sometime in late January and Telecom XT is meant to launch Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 sometime in mid February. There are quite a few Windows Phone models around overseas. But I think it would take a lot to convince local operators to get away from "iPhone or Android" mentality... Waiting for the Nokia models because those are more likely to be adopted by the operators. Because Windows Phone is teh sux0rz? Also note how MS was all "Oh we'll push updates to the phones, so it'll be like the iphone where everyone with a windows phone gets the update all at the same time" then they renegged and it's ended up being "the carriers decide when updates go out" (which means never)

All the 1st generation Windows Phone handsets launched in 2010 got upgraded to Windows Phone 7.5 (mango) within 2 months from launch of the update. This includes 10 handsets across many carriers in many countries. Windows Phone 7.5 (mango) was the second update. Windows Phone 7.5 is so different from Windows Phone 7, and ten minutes is not enough to even see the People Hub in action, let alone integrated messaging and everything else... Think the main problem is that Microsoft is so utterly uncool in the view of the majority of the people in the smartphone market compared to Apple and Google. Quite how they turn it around is anyones guess but buying Nokia when they were on a nosedive certainly wouldn't have been my first tactic.

I thought MS buy out of Nokia mobile was not about buying a hardware arm for mobile devices. Buying Nokia mobile was about buying patents. MS own so many of the patents now, they effectively lose money by spending developing Windows Mobile, and there have been a few whispers that they are at cross-roads now as to whether they will keep it going from here. Personally, I think the lack of energy they are putting into it is distracting buyers and hard for people to see Windows Mobile as a viable purchase option. For what it's worth, I really like my Trophy 7 :-)

kyhwana2: Because Windows Phone is teh sux0rz? Far from it. IMO Windows Phone 7.5 is superior to the iPhone and Android. It's only shortcoming is fewer apps in the marketplace when compared with its competitors.
