I went from the HTC Trophy (3.8") to the Incredible S (4.0") and the difference was very easily noticeable. Even if I went back to the Trophy just to see what was new it still felt quite a bit smaller

While the difference between 3.9" and 3.7" may sound like a lot, to be honest (if you hold them side-by-side) the Lumia 800 is only missing a strip of about 4-5mm at the bottom.

Looking at pictures you would expect that the entire Back-Windows-Search key strip has been subtracted from the N9's screen, but in fact the N9's display only comes down half-way -- around the horizontal bar of the back button.

Just received:

Telecom is pleased to announce retail pricing details for the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710.

The Nokia Lumia 800 will retail for $899, while the Lumia 710, available exclusively on the XT Smartphone Network, will retail for $549.

Customers who pre-register on Telecom’s website before 22 February 2012 will get up to $100 off the price of their Nokia Lumia 800 or Nokia Lumia 710 when they purchase online in March. The first 130 people to register will receive a free gift, with Xbox 360 prizes, Huffer gear and more up for grabs.

Pre registration details can be found at www.telecom.co.nz/lumiaprereg

Those numbers were accidently disclosed a month or so back - but helpful to have them confirmed.

If NZ market operates like those internationally, there is a chance that the Telecom NZ exlclusive on the Lumia 710 may not be permanent. We might see Vodafone or 2degrees pickup the Lumia 710 later in the year.

I picked up the Lumia 800 overseas to test out and have been quite impressed by the it - Nokia are on to a winner with this design and the Nokia Drive app is the best I've used. It will be interesting to see what sort of market share Windows Phone can gain thanks to the attention Nokia has with the Lumia range.

Yeah looks like the Lumia 800 for me whenever Vodafone pulls their finger out and gets it (I'm expecting June 2014 given their handling of the Omnia W).

$100 difference between the Lumia 800 and the Omnia W, the lumia seems stylier.

For extra $100 on the Lumia, you get a much better style, body, camera and free offline turn by turn voice guided navigation.

If you pre-register on the telecom site you get $100 off... so same price...:D no contest really I have pre-registered :)

At least I know Telecoms will be Quad Band, I suspect Vodafones will be tri band (the other band is the 850 telecom band...) to reduce churn?

The only decision now is Blue or Black  ?

Noel Leeming is now advertising the Nokia Lumia as well on the same page as the iPhone.

If only Nokia would have a launch for the amazingly cool developer community. With freebies of course...Ah well. Sniff.

One reason (other than music for instance) the extra storage on the Lumia might make a difference is in the chance of that affecting the possibility or otherwise of being able to update the OS to Apollo when that's released. But that's pure speculation on my part. But it's still safest to have as much storage as possible.

It's a shame Vodafone won't be carrying the blue 800, that's quite striking.

PS. For anyone comparing the 800 with the 900 (which in all fairness there's no indication of coming to New Zealand), the 900 has at least a couple of advantages over the 800 other than screen size and a front-facing camera (the latter of which I don't care about): the rear camera is said to be significantly better (at least on paper), and the screen unlike that on the 800 is non-PenTile, which should mean noticeably sharper text.

I'm still pretty sure there'll be a Lumia 800 on my shopping list this year though.

It's a Windows Phone, so it would be Microsoft's to push the dev community. I saw something happening on the original launch, plus they sponsored a competition last month to giveaway four Windows Phone handsets.

On the other hand (and this *WILL* sound as sour grapes), Microsoft last year decided to reduce the Windows Phone MVP program, so a huge number of MVPs (basically anyone not posting in Microsoft's own online forum) were removed from the program... At a time when they needed more people involved in community, they removed them

Disclaimer: I was a Windows Mobile MVP (and then Windows Phone MVP) since 2004 until 2011.
