So i wrote my first app, its free, and its now published.  Its called "Powershop Portable" and its for accessing your Powershop account to check balances, usage data, etc.  The next version will add ability to enter meter readings as i ran out of time to complete that in the first version.

If you use powershop and have a windows phone, please give it a whirl and send feedback my way :-)  (even if you dont use powershop, you can still install the app and look at the sample data if you like)

You can find it here: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-NZ/apps/398f7bd1-afa9-462c-a686-89fb5cd217ae

Criticism, both good and bad is welcome.  If you think its a pile of steaming xxx, then feel free to tell me - i wont be offended (but it would be helpful if perhaps you explain why you might think that) :-)

Installed, works fine - no need to enter readings for us, since we have a smart meter.

One thing I really dislike about OAUTH apps though: I was sent to a Powershop page asking for my email and password to authorise the app, but there's no way for me to verify that said page is actually on Powershop and not a phishing web page.

Not the app's fault obviously, but I just think it's such an easy way for people to part with their passwords... At least using the Geekzone API you have to do it from our domain first. The same with Google accounts when using two factor authentication: you have to create unique passwords from your Google Account page to use services that don't recognise the two factor authentication...

Did you enter the MSDN competition with this app?

i wonder if i can show an address bar to prove where the page is located...

i've also asked the powershop guys to update their mobile detection as the oauth page looks terrible on wp7 and iphone 4s

thanks for checking it out :)

Just installed (Omnia). Easy to navigate. No smart meter for me, so looking forward to next release

Edit - thought about making the icon default to pink, rather than the theme colour? Pink is very much part of the Powershop identity, and would make it a lot easier to find on the app list.

I did think about that - then i wondered what the pink would look like against the various theme colours and thought it would look a but yuk...  i also typically find i prefer to have my tiles use the theme colour but thats just a personal preference really.  Perhaps i can make it user choice whether to use the theme tile, or a colourized tile by adding a toggle to settings... i'll see what i can do :)

Hi Regs

Just happened across what may be a bug - if the site is in "transfer mode" then the app is just blank with no user feedback. Refreshing has no indicator to show there is nothing to refresh.

During a house move this may be expected, but my Powershop has just gone back in to move mode (unsure why) and I assumed the app was broken, which you may not want a non-Geekzone reader thinking!

Thanks, i'll take a look at that as soon as I have a chance.

This is a nice app, any word on when the next iteration might be available? It is the only thing holding me back from a perfectly working WP experience :p

Workstation: Intel DH67CL ~ i5-2500 ~ 4GB Corsair RAM (x2) ~ Intel X25-M 80GB SSD

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1564 ~ i5-520M ~ 4.00GB RAM ~ 500GB SATA HDD ~ Win7 Home Premium x64

Common misconceptions.

+1. Would love to be able to enter a meter reading from within the app.

hi guys, sorry for the delay. was having a couple of problems with the meter readings:

1) no time to investigate :P
2) the oAuth library i was using failed miserably when it came to the submit meter read part

the good news is that i finally had a chance to play, swapped out hammock for RestSharp, and was then able to submit a meter reading ok.

with luck i'll be able to tidy it up and post an update within the next few weeks

Option to choose between pink and theme colour? ASB app stands out in my list, due to the yellow. Otherwise it's looking good
