Yes heaps of people on MANY differant blogs and forums are asking about PlayTV and it is a VERY hot topic Mark Bunting producer of PlayTV made some exciting announcements couple of months ago on his blog saying most of the MPEG-4 issues where being resolved including MPEG-4 recording AAC/AAC+ support AC3/AC3+ support and series link just to name a few but things have gone very quiet.
- Will there be an official annoucment at Gamescom?
- Will SONY New Zealand give us some form of up-date?
- Will Matk Bunting start another blog with an announcement ?(he will be under some pressure due to France using the same DVB-T system as us and are also having the same issues)

I already own PlayTV (imported from europe) and with the firmware 1.10 works here but only on TV3 (all the other channels have picture but no sound due to PlayTV not supporting AAC/AAC+ audio)

Now with Prime being on Freeview HD now is the time for SONY to pull finger I believe PlayTV once fully running here would be one of the most impressive PVR's I have seen to date!!

I don't mean to keep posting the same question, but I am of the same opinion as all the above "PlayTV" post-ers.

When is PlayTV going to be released in NZ?

We need answers. We have been waiting too long ever since the pre-mature announcement from Sony NZ. Please help us out here Sony.

1) I hope Sony still has every interest in updating Gen1 and improving things?

2) Can you pass on to those dedicated engineers regarding power consumption of Gen1 - if can't reduce max consumption, howabout drastic reduction when idle (it sucks 110W idle 130W at its peak according to my tests)?

3) Will Sony enable bitstream output of TrueHD/DTSHD in future updates (currently only output as LPCM only)?

That's all!

PlayTV?

What is Sony doing about the EPG for this locally, given MHEG5 EPG only and no EIT data on the UHF Freeview service?

With Prime now being on Freeview, many are finally now looking at replacing their older analogue DVD/HDD recorders with new digital PVR's. NOW is the time to release this before the market is filled with standalone units that do the same job.

Sorry, it feels like we're hijacking this as it was probably supposed to be about the new PS3 design.
Thing is, PlayTV will allow us to use the PS3 as a true media hub and we've just been given so many differening comments etc that we just really want to know honestly what's going on with this.

PS3 Slim:

Is there anything different about the new device with regards to firmware updates, or will these continue to work for both units.

Comment only: No mention of a rear usb port or inbuilt IR receiver.

The other thing I just thought of is Vidzone......what is happening for New Zealand??

With PlayTV the thing you need to make clear to SONY NZ is it is just firmware not hardware (the European hardware works fine) are they able to touch base with the developers and ask them when the next firmware is due out and will it address most of the issues for the MPEG-4 contries??

Link please to the source. I originally added that question to this list because the latest press release this week by SCEE at GamesCom had no mention of NZ (in fact named no countries at all, just an expansion). If you can please confirm your source then the question no longer needs to be asked.

Why is Sony not being as aggressive as Microsoft when pricing their consoles for the New Zealand Market.

299USD RRP Slim PS3 = $630NZD RRP
299USD X360 Elite = $500NZD RRP

Going on Stuff's conversion that $299 US = $445 NZD

Microsoft's pricing is pretty much bang on $445 x 1.125 = $500.63

Sony would rather charge us an extra $115 before calculating GST ($445 + $115) x 1.125 = $630

when is PlayTV arriving and recommended retail ? ...i thought it was going to be Jan 2008

Does it support 1TB disks and higher for external connection thru the SATA connection using thrid party connects and ESATA - i know the original only worked to 500GB (may have been mixed)
120GB is good but still not much

Am i gong to be disadvantaged by owning an old PS3 - aside from the aesthetics, larger hdd and true audio (all of which i dont care about)
