I really liked ME1, but got lost in ME2, wondering if I need to finish ME2 to play ME3?

You should definitely finish ME2, the whole point of this style of RPG is the story.

Though in saying that there will be a section at the beginning of ME3 where you can quickly make the major plot decisions of the previous two games if you haven't finished them. You won't get the smaller plot points carrying over into 3 but at least the big stuff will be sort of customisable.

Wow really? Was that in the demo or something?

I'm still torn on a couple decisions I made, I didn't save the Council in ME1 and I didn't save Kaiden Alenko who, I understand, would still be in ME3 were he still alive unlike Ashley Williams who left of her own accord after ME1. Was happier with my choices in ME2 however...

in the demo you can pick the option where Ashley Williams dies and Kaiden Alenko lives , or the other way so i presume you can do it in the actual game

Ash might be back in 3.  Kaiden was pretty much a walk-on walk-off in 2.  He didn't really do anything so if he's in 3 it'll be as much as Ash could be.

Hmm, quite right. The plot thickens! Just 3 more sleeps to go :-)

Probably best to keep spoilers of the story of ME1 and ME2 out of this thread directly as there might still be people playing them before ME3 comes out.

Anyway if you want to know more about what decisions carry over these pages covers it

Also the two mass effect saves websites have lots of save files you can "borrow" for importing if you can't be bothered replaying me1 or me2 and what to change what happened.

Thanks for the link Ragnor, I've used that site before and had forgotten all about it!

Sooooo is anyone at home able to check if we can play yet? is the release time/date restricted to US timezone? would be good to be able to have a crack after work so either way should be ok for me.

Wife is away for the weekend so I see the pc going to the lounge & the 42 inch being used for some ME3 goodness!

TabutiNZ on Origin, don't forget!

Well one weekend down!

Thoughts so far - Awesome, good job Bioware you have another pearler! Very immersive game play & fantastic story so far. There are some big decisions to make resulting in whole species being destroyed!

Gameplay is top notch, I havn't found any bugs at all in single player and have enjoyed it.

Multiplayer is pretty cool, i didn't do the demo at all so this was my first taste of it. The store system is very random, you buy one of three different packs that contain weapons, mods & characters, It is all random so you end up getting the same items even if you have it already..

Bit of lagg from time to time, nothing major & to be expected

How have the rest of you found it?

Very keen to avoid spoilers myself so you won't get any from me :-)

So far I'm very impressed, it's way more streamlined in feel than 1 or 2, more concise, to the point. I could spend hours in the last games running around the Citadel trying to find someone but they've really cut out the unnecessary time wastage and distilled it down to the fun and important bits. The story is indeed epic.

Early on I had two occasions where a team mate got stuck on terrain requiring a restart (Save first!) but other than that my gameplay has been glitch free. Combat also seems to feel more snappy somehow.

Can't believe people have finished this already, I only feel like I'm scatching the surface and am probably 7-8 hours in. I guess that's only a days play for some folk... Haven't tried multi-player yet, will probably take a look once I've completed the main story.
