just reading about Xnet fusion on their site, and it's unclear to me what hardware they provide for you, and what I need to provide.

Do they provide a voip capable adsl modem?

From what I understand hardware isn't included. They have a certified hardware list which they can automatically provision, saving any guess work with settings etc and provided a more consistent user experience.

Many people have recommended the Cisco Small Business Series hardware SRP527/521 and SPA5xx phones. A worthwhile investment IMO when you're depending on it for both voice and data :)

No hardware included. With free stuff comes free off-shore call centres...

On the XNet web site go to Phone -> Hardware. You can buy it from PB Technologies and I think a few other places pre-configured, or else all you need to do is enter a single URL in the setup screen. Once plugged in and signed up, the router will connect and reboot a few times as it goes through firmware updates. These are all official firmwares, not XNet specific. Once you are setup you will be locked out of the primary phone port. The secondary (if it has one) will be open if you want to dare compare other providers. When you leave the service the locked port will be unlock, which is unlike overseas providers.

SRP527 is great. The PAP2T is the most basic device, but be aware lots of -NA models from eBay and TradeMe are clones, only the -AU is allowed.

You can buy direct from XNet, which I believe they just order for you from PB (but I might be wrong).

You can never have enough Volvos!
