It depends on their price. IMHO, it will not be competitive.

Once BOF changes to UFB, WxC will get the same wholesale rates from Chorus or the local LFC as other ISP's. They will be able to drop prices and/or provide more attractive plans.

To be fair WxC claim they are restrained by the wholesale pricing of existing BOF contracts.

However, I'm sure they are milking their effective monopoly a bit, I know I would.

We received some flyers from another ISP yesterday.

Once they are able to service our area, the price will be nearly half of what we are paying XNET.
No data cap from 1am to 7am too!
and if we pre-order before the end of the year, they will give 2 months free, that will well cover for the early termination fees.

I hope someone from WorldXchange wakes up and starts putting more sensible prices on fibre.

As said before in this thread, WXC is limited and restricted by their contract, Once UFB is open they will no doubt offer better plans.

It's interesting to see how another providers try to get new customers. And only monopoly doesn't worry about it: customers can't escape. In other case WXC would say something about coming changes, new UFB plans and try to keep existing customers.

The thing is, as explained before, WXC can do nothing about the price the currently have to pay in order to provide the services and they will very likely not discuss it any further as the discussion is futile. As soon as UFB opens up and the cost to provide the service comes down, they will be able to set new pricing for customers same as other service providers.

Personally I would wait, because every time I see an offering which binds you into a contract I find it is a bad deal in the long run.

No data cap during early morning hours, let me think, didn't WXC offer that kind of deal a couple of years ago and got burnt? So many people signed up that the bit rate dropped to bytes per week...

We were on that plan and the performance was terrible

are they not even able to speculate to existing customers of upcoming changes? seems to me that although their hands are tied currently existing customers in these areas are feeling neglected and undervalued. surely if they were given some hope of change they would stay and continue on.

Been on this forum for 5 1/2 years since I've joined XNet (and where I've learnt about them). Every time they give out some info more than they already have (which is virtually nothing) they get pounded with requests for more info and people trying to tell them how their plans should be structured. There was a period of I think 6 months that they went silent on this forum to wait for the storm to blow over and the level of support through this forum has never returned to what it was. Unfortunately some frustration is better than what happens when some indication is given.

At the end of the day they have to stay in business and will structure their pricing according to what it cost to provide the service, keeping in mind what others charge. And remember others can cope with a smaller margin through a large customer base where loosing say a thousand customers is not much, but WXC has a small customer base so need to keep the margins slightly higher. It is the basics of running a sound business that will be around long after other small ones failed and are forgotten. And they are not into a huge customer base, otherwise they would advertise (have seen only one advert ever and regarding iSky, and a poster at PB Tech).

We are damned if we do and damned if we don't, last time we got caned for hinting at the new plan changes and when they didn't turn up on time it was a painful exercise for all, so lesson was learn t based on the response's here, don't hint until l where fully ready.

This time we have waited until we have had all the ducks in a row (i.e commercials... trust me the BOF negotiations are ugly), so until they were sorted no new plans were coming out, so now we have sorted some commercials and so here they are, no hints just plans.





Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink
