Its most likely scam calls originating out of India or some other country that does these. They are often automated dialers waiting for someone to answer. If you actually keep the call open you may find that eventually someone will talk on the other end as it gets forwarded to an operator, trying to scam you with something. These have become a real problem , and makes a landline more an more useless.

I had a similar thing occur 2 years ago I purchased a VFX number through worldxchange a little over a month ago. The whole ordering process went through without a hitch. I was given my number by the service rep at the time and was looking forward to receiving service! On the day it was to be connected the phone started ringing at 7am, thinking the number had now been connected I ignored their obvious test call. 60 seconds later the phone called again . Before I got to it stopped ringing, 60 seconds later it called again. It kept calling every 60 seconds for about two hours. I called the help desk, the best they could do was to give me the numbers and told me to call the police!? I instead called the number provider Telstra clear who against privacy policy told me they were coming from The Department of Labour. I called the Department of Labour when the calls returned a few days later and my number was found in there pbx voicemail service. They promised the issue was fixed and i didn?t receive calls for about a week. Then the calls returned; another call and they stopped for about 1 week; and in usual fashion returned again!!

It seems ridiculous that you had to chase that up, surely these are nuiscance calls that your Telco should be dealing with given the privacy laws.

In our case, if someone is being "harrassed" (>3 calls) then we can block that caller from calling our subscriber. In the case the calls come from overseas and we can't pick the CLI then we contact the upstream and they can usually block the calls. Unfortunately for overseas callers there is not a lot else that can be done. It is not appropriate (or legal) for your provider to give you a private caller ID. They may encourage you to lay a complaint with the Police, who can then issue a court order for the information.

You actually have the tools now to block this, you have anonymous call rejection as part of the standard voice package for VFX, as others have pointed out the advanced feature gives you selective call rejection where you can add in a time table to block anonymous calls. It is actually impossible to block inbound calls to your number if we get no CLI as well so you have the tools to be able to control this your self, You can do it by the web page or use the star codes , if this is a major just do it on the phone before you go to bed 77 will turn it on 87 turns it off Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well

Why don't you guys block these calls then? Seems to me that you are aiding these pranksters? Hows can a call that goes through a Telco be received without a CLI? Also this may have been asked before - but what are the ins and outs of being able to block and entire country or ISD code? Given the amount of dodgy calls form India for example I for one would be happy to block everyone except say NZ/AUS/PACIFIC UK/US

Given the amount of dodgy calls form India for example I for one would be happy to block everyone except say NZ/AUS/PACIFIC UK/US Yes that's correct, happens a large amount of the time, especailly now we see a lot of VoIP providers in the market a lot of them dont actually care about number integrity a bug bare of mine for a while, international calls can also be present with 0000 and still marked as private this is valid international CLI presentation, there are unfortunately a number of VoiP providers out there supplying cheap NZ termination and generally we see these types of calls coming from the same carriers here, cant name them as much as I would like too, bottom line is its actually complicated to deal with so the bottom line applies, you have the tools so use what you have to deal with them. Your kidding right , block an entire countries CLI number ranges !! , how about the thousands of legitimate calls ! Again with the services VFX user have they can handle this themselves pretty easily as well. Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well

How about adding the option for end users to block calls from certain countries? For me, I'm interested in calls only from South Africa and Australia. Anything else is spam. To do this means XNet need to filter based on the CLI presented to them, not the CLI presented to the end user. You can never have enough Volvos!

To do this means XNet need to filter based on the CLI presented to them, not the CLI presented to the end user. you could use selective call acceptance in the advance feature pack to do this , you would set up to allow these countries 0027 and 0061, but you would also have to add the national numbers as well 0x xxx xxxx and 02 xxx Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well
