I'm currently on a (Xnet) river plan and pay for what I use - Average somewhere between 45-55 gb a month. I see that I can move to a Clothed 50gb plan for $70 which seems like a good option - but it has a 12 month term on it (I've been with Xnet for quite a while but nevermind) - With the new plan I believe its Full speed up and down - fastest down I get is about 900k/s so I'm guessing that won't increase much, but up will go to the same? We have also have Chorus install the fibre outside the house (in Rolleston) but I don't think it'll be live until May. If I go to the new 50gb plan - then take up the fibre option do you think I'd get held to the 12 month plan? Or could it transition over? Also are the plans different on Xnet vs WxC? Finally - If I go fibre, I'm assuming I won't need the traditional phone line, so could cancel that and save the money - or get a bigger cap (Is that right?) Thanks for any clarity.

As far as I know the 12 month term only applies to new customers, not old customers. XNet and WxC is the same thing, XNet is just the broadband branding. With fibre install the router has a phone port to provide your house with normal phone services (if needed), there will be no further requirement to have a copper phone line to your premises. You can already get rid of the land line subscription if you change to Fusion which is broadband and VoIP. I think it saves about $10 per month, not sure as I have been on Fusion for a number of years. Their phone service is very stable and the best quality/reliability, but be aware that Sky bookings and alarm diallers and fax typically do not work over VoIP. For Sky you can phone to book, for alarms you can switch for Alarms NZ to monitor via internet, and for fax you can use fax-to-email services (or there is an option if you really want to). As for ADSL speed, you can log into your modem and see what the line sync rate is to get a feel for the speed you will get, minus 10%-20% for overheads. You can never have enough Volvos!

So I switched to the 50gb plan - Current DL speed is about 1.2Mbps (up on the 900k/s) I was getting Line Rate Up 856 Line Rate Down 11213 Not sure what the line sync rate is (using TP-Link TDW8960N Modem Router) Though the PC is wireless with a Dongle (TP Link WN821N) Speedtest Showed 9.5Mbps download Any ideas? Or is what I have normal

That is good/normal for ADSL. You can never have enough Volvos!

Yea I would recommend switching to naked now so the transition to fibre will be almost seamless in terms of your phone (ie when tis installed plug router out of copper and into fibre and voila). Also I doubt contract lengths apply to existing customers.
