Tonight I've noticed a few e-mail outages of (looks like) 10 minutes at a time.  Maintenance or repair?  When it happens the webmail page will authenticate the login but can't establish an IMAP connection, and POP3 also fails.

I like the status page saying "no historic events at present", maybe next week we'll have an event that will make history?

kyhwana2: People still use ISP email services?

1) Our employer internet usage contract (we sign it) states we are not allowed to use web mail.
2) GMail is great, but they do keep your e-mails for ever even when you delete it, i.e. your e-mails do not really belong to you.
3) Overnight Google decided to change their calendar sharing so we can no longer access our home calendar from work using Outlook.
4) My ISP has never forced any customer to change anything, plans/options go obsolete but you do not get told to change.
5) In my life I have changed ISP about 5 or 6 times including migrating, it is not that hard to tell your friends your new address.
6) Most people change job more than ISP, in which case they also have to tell their friends their new e-mail address.
7) If it is really an issue, you can get your own e-mail address and forward it to your current ISP.
8) If you have any dispute whatsoever with Google (e.g. privacy), what are you going to do about it?  They are not governed by NZ law like your ISP is.
9) I can't believe people are still asking this question without understanding every person has unique circumstances/requirements and there is no "one size fits all", it is like asking why do people still have a land line.

Thanks Phil, don't know as I'm off to work ;-).  I happened a few times last night, think one of them was 8:00 and another 10:00 but can't remember others.  I have a tray application which checks e-mails every 3 minutes so I can see when it is spinning for half a minute trying to log in.

Wait, you mean at work or at all, even when you're not at work/not on work time?
(You can use IMAP/POP3 clients with gmail too, btw)

Phil: Have not noticed any issues tonight, thanks for attending to this (irrespective of finding an issue or not).
