Bugger. ADSL2+ availability at my address on the Telecom Wholsale website has been pushed out again to September.

Don't know if I can put up with this for another 4 months....

Hi Allen,

By default your service will still be BUBA on ADSL2+,  we are currently investigating new EUBA plans as there is a price difference for these products.  Your WAG54GP2 should support EUBA.

Unfortunately we can't control the rollout schedules,  however your backhaul issue has been escalated to Senior Technical Support at Telecom Wholesale and I've requested an update on the situation.

Thanks
Cameron

Regards Allen.

Sometimes they're fairly slow at getting back to us (they might not have had any news),  I gave them a fairly good hurry up (on my requested update) and received the following response.

'Have now confirmed the work request to increase the back on the SWO-DSLAM-01 has now been completed, looking at the traffic the node is no longer hitting threshold.'

Hopefully your peak time service won't be as badly affected as it previously was.  Would be great if you could provide some feedback on call quality etc over the next few days.

Thanks
Cameron

Hi Cameron, Thanks for the update. I will do some tests and report back results.

Do Xnet know of an application that can test network quality or simulate a VOIP call and give a quantatative report on VOIP quality on a regular schedule? I have been using Winmeter, speedtest.net, Router VOIP stats etc, but this is a manual process. Also Pingtest.net doesn't usually show any dropped packets in it's packet loss test while Winmeter does. Does Winmeter use ping responses and Pingtest test with TCP? Which more accurately reflects VOIP packet loss?

Regards Allen.

Hi Cameron,
The backhual upgrade seems to have done the trick. Hopefully it lasts until the ADSL2+ upgrade.

I have done many speedtest.net, pingtest.net and voipreview.org tests over the weekend, (including every half hour from 18:30 to 22:30 on friday). Also made several VOIP calls to voicemail which all sounded good. I have collected many of the test results in an email. Cameron, do you want me to forward them to xnet on this ticket, or is the info here sufficient?

Most of the pingtest.net tests showed between 55 & 60mS ping, between 1 & 5 mS jitter. The worst was 69mS Ping, 29 mS jitter 22:30 saturday night. the next test immediately afterwards was back under 60mS again.

The lowest speedtest.net speed over the weekend was 3.16Mbit down, 0.75Mbit up.

Below is a typical winmtr test, followed by the worst one over the weekend. These are still showing losses to wxnz servers in the route.
The funny thing is if I use a simple ping -t, or a different type of traceroute test from http://www.visualroute.com/ it doesn't report any no reply or packet loss? Can you explain this? Are the losses here still indicative of a problem with certain packet types?

I have found a useful VOIP test at http://www.voipreview.org/voipspeedtester.aspx that has been showing consistently good VOIP test results all weekend.
Here is a typical sample result from 21:52 on saturday http://www.voipreview.org:82/myspeed/db/report?id=46392
The test is provided by Visualware.com http://www.myconnectionserver.com/ It would be good for Xnet to host a VOIP test like this on a NZ based server.

Regards Allen.

Hi Allen,

I'll chase Telecom Wholesale via my previous emails and see what they have to say.

Is the above happening every evening or just on the odd occasion?

Thanks
Cameron

Thanks Cameron.
Last night was the first time I have noticed any problems and done any significant tests since a couple of days after the last ticket was closed. My internet usage is usually pretty light, so don't notice problems until I have VOIP problems, or webpages taking a long time to load.

Saturday night I watched an hour long TV episode from TVNZ on-demand. I used the highest quality setting 1500kbps mid evening and the whole episode played without any pauses for buffering. No problems that night.

I am currently running a Pingplotter trace over 24 hours. I won't do anything bandwidth iintensive while it is running. I'll forward a screendump to the current ticket.

Regards Allen.

Hi Cameron,

Ive posted an email to ticket 310777 with 12 hours data. looks like congestion to me between 18:00 & 22:30 with the worst period between 19:55 to 20:25. Up to 1001mS ping

If you would like the raw data let me know. I'll keep collecting data for a couple more days.

Regards Allen

60 minute trend referred to in previous post.

Apologies for the quality. Best I could do with 200k. The two graphs are Jitter 0 - 250mS (top graph) and Latency 0 - 1000 mS (bottom graph) for the half hour 19:55 to 20:25

Better quality screen dumps.

12 hours 11 AM to 11PM 31/5/11.
Each Pixel on the graph is the average of previous 10 pings. Worst Ping is 1001mS. Full scale on the jitter graph is 250mS.

Statistics on top half of the page are based on last 50 samples

60 minutes 19:40 to 20:40 30/5/11 Each Pixel on the graph is 1 ping.

Hi Allen,

Got those pingplotter graphs and have passed them to Telecom Wholesale.

Hopefully I'll hear something back from them shortly.

Thanks
Cameron

Thanks Cameron.

I've uploaded some full size screen dumps to a file host site. See the post just before your last one for links if you want full res ones. (Geekzone has shrunk the size, still not that easy to read)

Regards Allen.
