Hi guys
I just have a couple of questions about what hardware I should be getting for my VHSI service -
Do WxC supply the router, or do I have to purchase one?
Have any of you got any recommendations of particular models if I have to buy one, and would you recommend the Vigor models - also I presume for Fibre it's just an RJ45 ethernet interface to the network, rather than RJ11

Cheers
Scott

They have a particular model they suggest but you could get any router which has QoS and a separate VOIP adapter like a spa2102. And yes the router should have a WAN interface that is ethernet with an rj45 jack.

Good idea - might be wise to get a standalone unit - the challenge for me is finding a gigabit router with VOIP and decent WiFi ;)
Otherwise I'll get the basic model that they supply + a couple of gigabit switches, but then the cabling will just get messy

SRP541. Just don't choke at the price.

It's hard not to choke on Cisco pricing heh

A TP Link TL-WR1043ND router (which can run the amazing DD-WRT or Gargoyle Router 3rd party firmwares) + Linksys SPA2102 less then 1/3 the price.

Requires a bit of tech savvy to setup of course, not recommended for average joes.. proceed at own risk etc.

I've used the DD-WRT one my old Linksys routers and was impressed - I think that might be a go-er
I've had enough of dealing with Cisco for a while, so I think the latter option might be a good one!
Mind you, the SRP541 is coming out slightly cheaper than the DrayTek options (which I really like)
Thanks for the advice, and it will probably be much better to have the standalone VOIP adaptor

I'm running the SRP541 at home now and loving it, had the SRP527 and 521 for two different connections now I have a single box with auto fail-over from DSL to Ethernet to 3G

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink

Hmmm will have to think about it then... the SRP might be a good option, and I should be able to get a good discount on it from my office in the UK.
I hate having to make choices like this ;)
