Greetings all :) My old, worn out Cisco Linksys WAG160N Modem/Router combo has decided to spit the dummy. So, today I decided that router/modem combos were NOT the thing for me anymore and I went and picked up a standalone router that I particularly like - a Cisco Linksys EA4500. But I am "lost at sea" when it comes to deciding which Modem I should buy to go with it - hence the reason I am on here. Love to hear your suggestions on this as I need to buy a really good modem that would match the EA4500, as fast as possible. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me :)

Thanks Chevrolux I had already read about the DrayTek Vigor 120 on another forum but wasn't sure if it would be an ideal match for the EA4500. Are you familiar with the EA4500?

chevrolux: Draytek Vigor 120 Search is your friend +1 It doesn't feel like the quality item it is (light, plastic case), but, mine has performed very well since I've set it up. From the modem System Uptime: 679:40:53 the connection time shown in the router is just over 23 days, and, that's since I rebooted it, it hasn't disconnected itself. It has a nice high sync speed. Put it in full bridge mode.

Thanks Dolsen :) Do you happen to know if there are any physical stores I can purchase the DrayTek Vigor 120 from on Auckland's North Shore? I know I can purchase it online, but was just wondering if it is in-store somewhere?

Thanks guys... but where can I purchase the DrayTek Vigor 120 Modem? I see that Acquire have the router/modem combo but that is not what I want. I only want the modem and am having no luck trying to find a physical store in Auckland where I can buy one.

I doubt you'll find any physical stores that do carry them. Just order from somewhere like Ascent, you'll have it the next day. *Need help configuring your Linksys ATA or IP Phones for New Zealand? Check my blog post

Nicegear is great to buy off. Probably not always the cheapest but things arrive very quickly and if you need advice they are very helpful. Also look on PriceSpy to find the cheapest shop. Cheapest on there is $83. Nicegear is $95. I would rather pay the extra $12 and get off someone you can definitely trust and will give good support if needed.

Thanks Chevrolux, I think I will take your advice re NICEGEAR. A question though... On reading the information in detail with regard to the DrayTek Vigor 120 ADSL2+ Modem, they refer to it as a Modem / Router (as opposed to just a Modem). Can you clarify this for me? It is so darn confusing when 50% of the literature about the Draytek Vigor 120 calls it a "Modem" and the other 50% call it a "Modem / Router". Which is it? My old, weak, tired, malfunctioning Linksys WAG120N is a so-called "Modem / Router" and so when I hooked it up to the new EA4500 Router (just for the hell of it) it simply by-passed it (obviously) and the issues re disconnections every 30 minutes or so, continue. So... without wanting to sound dumb, is the DrayTek Vigor 120 ADSL2+ Modem "just a modem?" Or is it a "modem / router combo?"

Its a modem, but it also routes between two networks, and is therefore a router too. However you will ideally put it in full bridge mode, so it won't be routing, just bridging. Don't worry about it, its a perfect match. I'd grab it from Ascent. Ive never used nicegear and ascent are always known to have good service.
