Hi all,
Looking for any Unifi gurus around. Over the past little we have put up a fair few of these up and had next to no issues. Just did another deployment of around 10 Unifis and are having wicked controller issues.
As most will know it has a set of standard ports like 8080, 8443, etc. When the controller starts up it was saying that 8080 is being used by other programs. Fine. Moved the whole port range up to 12xxx just as a random place to start with. And things were fine for a couple of days and then it happened again. The controller crashed and wouldn't start as port 12080 was being used by another program. Did a 'netstat -a' to see what was using it and the port didn't come up anywhere in the list. I thought maybe firewall/anti-virus was blocking it. Being a motel they only had the one PC on their front desk so rather muck around with that I put in a second PC to run the controller (overkill I know but was just trying to eliminate things). It was fine for a few more days and it crashed again. On this second PC I disbaled all the windows firewall, windows defender and it has no anti-virus so I am just at a loss where to look next. I am thinking the next step might be a Ubuntu-based controller but I don't think it will make much of a difference tbh.
Does anyone know of any specifics that have caused issues with the controller? Looking through the UBNT forums doesn't give me too much to go on - mainly just how to change ports which is dead easy anyway.

Edit: Just to add. It is now running the latest version (2.3.8) and the issue persists.

Hi chevrolux,

Which version of the controller software are you running, and what version of Java?

Issue is Java 7 I believe. I had to roll back to Java 6 to get it working for me.

Yip don't use Java 7. It actually breaks a lot of things out there.

Dam! Didn't even contemplate that. Will roll back and see how we go.

I'd also be careful deploying beta software on a production system. UBNT's track record with software isn't great. I've deployed several hundred of these over the last few months and wouldn't contemplate using the newer 2.3 software due to all the bugs. Basic things like Option46 support that is essential in a large scale deployment were broken in one of the earlier betas show a lack of any regression testing.

FYI, Java 7 support was fixed in 2.3.8.

Thats probably a good point about 2.3.x. All other installs have been done on 2.2.5 (and some probably a touch earlier) but I figured they have released this as stable now and supposedly should be just that. Guess I should have known better than to trust the UBNT team lol.
Reading the release notes I see Java 7 support is added. Have rolled back to 6 just for good luck but time will tell. Seems to take a few days for the fault to present itself so we shall see. If I keep having issues will get them on to 2.2.5.
