Topic # 110924 19-Oct-2012 14:24 Send private message

Hey guys, need some help.

I have a belkin 600 dual band (2.4/5ghz) modem/router and a 5.8ghz cordless phone.

Every time our phone rings or is used the internet disconnects and can't connect for 10 min or so.

I am hoping there is a way around this without buying a new phone or modem/router.

Another question, how could I increase my internet speed test results:

Download: 2.32mb/s
Upload: 1.16mb/s
Ping: 23ms
Server: AKL

Would like to increase the download speed as much as possible.

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Get a master splitter installed contact Coffeebaron here on Geekzone

Please post modem stats

You may not be able to increase speed due to many factors such as distance from exchange / cabinet

You need to login to the modem and get the line stats and post them here onto Geekzone

Forget line stats till splitter installed or filter replaced.

Have you got every phone/fax filtered through phone side of a filter?

You modem should not be filtered.

You should have NO double plugs and NO telephone extension cords.

Your excellent uploads indicate one of the above is likely the reason for your poor download.

Only one phone, has filter in place.

You modem should not be filtered.
Modem was on filter, but now don't have the right plug to plug in ADSL cable. Removed Telephone->ADSL cable from a phone not been used to connect the modem, but speed has dropped?

Modem was plugged in using extension cord, not now but as above.

How is modem plugged in?

Replace your filter.

Speeds reported above before or after changes just revealed?

Turn off the 5ghz wifi on the router - see if the network stops dropping when the phone rings.
If so, then thats the issue, its conflicting....   try setting the wifi to a different channel (might find its set to auto).

This is not a modem/router or wirless issue. It is an unfiltered line issue. Check how your filters are plugged in - Doing Chorus fault work I found this to be one of the biggest issues. People just didn't check it. Past that a splitter is required. Yes it will cost money. But if you call the right people it won't cost as much as your ISP will quote you. And at the end of the day if one of your power points was a bit dodgey you would get a sparky to fix it right? Phone jacks are just as important so might as well spend some money on them.

Modem is plugged straight into the wall with a Telephone->ADSL cable now.
Have tried a couple of filters. Do I need them in every socket even if there is nothing plugged into every socket?
Speeds dropped after changing things around.

Tried turning off the 5ghz awhile back and didn't change anything. In fact I just turned it back on today.
Also changed the channel but no difference.

Which wireless mode should I use on the 2.4ghz? Would changing that help?

Cool, thank...selling the house in a couple months so wont bother installing a splitter here, unless its easy to take out and move?

Cheers guys.

Well don't. In which case your chance of improving the performance of your adsl connection has been lost. You've also lost the chance to wire the house correctly for the next occupier.

P.S. Learning to find, read and decipher your line stats will also help you if you can be bothered.

Yes, your line rate (~2Mbit) looks very low for 34dB attenuation, should be >10Mbit.

High probability of dodgy house phone wiring imo.

Definately a filter/wiring related issue.
