I am looking at a pair of netgear gs108t's to trunk 3 seperate networks between 2 buildings with only a single cat5e between them.

Is there any reason not to get them? Would be coming from the US via a reshipper so the absurd NZ markups are a non issue.

I've used them, but not in any permanent installation (mostly for network tracing), they seem like good and capable switches, the VLAN capabilities worked fine, I never really tested the internal routing though.

Get a couple of the Mikrotik 750G switches, 5xGb ports, full 802.1q trunking. No more than about $180NZ from goWifi or even trademe.
GoWifi will also have bigger Mikrotik switches, most likely.

The Level One's are fine for basic layer2 stuff. Have one that handles 30 VLANs and about 300mbps of constant traffic no problems. For the next step up using the Cisco SGE2000 and SG300 series.

I have Cisco/Linksys SLM2008 switches at home .. cost $25 each off of TradeMe (Cisco were selling them off CHEAP for Cure Kids)
Work a treat, VLANs, 802.3ad, SNMP alerts etc etc They are gigabit, 8 ports and can be powered via PoE.

Got the linksyses off trademe, certainly not $25 but still a good deal for 4 of them. Now I have the flatmates DSL connection trunked out to the workspace so I can use it to test on.
