Hi, I accidentally reset my level one access point and now the wifi connection is not secure and the name (SSID?) has defaulted to 'Level One" was previously "The-Bunker".  I've tried setting my mac with only on ethernet internet connection and then type http://192.168.0.1 (the default IP of the access point) to reconfigure my access point but safari can't open the page..  I want to ideally re-establish the "The-Bunker" wifi network but at a minimum I want a new secure wifi network.  Any suggestions? p.s. I'm an amateur on these matters but generally can get things resolved but using google but unsuccessful this time.

What is the IP address of your mac now?
How are you getting the internet on it? - Are you plugged into your router directly?

I think the IP address of my Mac is 10.1.13 (got via Network - Ethernet connection) Is the right?

My current connection is Dlink Router - Ethernet cable - Airport Extreme - Ethernet cable - Mac.

p.s. I have an Level one access point connected via ethernet to Airport Extreme too.

Look at your IP configuration and find the Gateway. That's your router IP address.

If you reset the router it's probably not in the 192.168.x.x subnet anymore.

I don't understand why you have the Level1 as well as the Airport? Are they in different parts of your house?

If you have reset the Level1, and it's default IP is 192.168.0.1, you will need to change your Mac to an IP address of 192.168.0.2 (or anything but 0.1) and plug the Level1 directly into the Mac to get access to it. While you have access to it, change it's IP address to something in the same range as your Airport (10.1.1.254 for example) so that you do not have to repeat that excercise.

Sorry my IP ethernet is 10.1.1.3 (I get "It works" when i enter into safari) my router is 10.1.1.1. when I enter this into safari then get a log-in box for my D-link router (not my Level One access point).  It asks for a name and password which I don't know what they are.

For the username try admin and leave the password blank.

If you go to a command prompt then type

tracert 4.4.4.4 OR
traceroute 4.4.4.4

The IP address if your WAP should be the second entry on the traceroute - I think. Copy that number into your browser.

If he is connected to the WAP it will be.

The OP also has an Airport Extreme, which is a WAP as well.

You need to plug your Mac directly in to the level one AP. You need to set the IP address of your Mac to something like 192.168.0.66 and then set a default gateway of 192.168.0.1, oh and a netmask of 255.255.255.0. This is providing your level one AP defaults back to 192.168.0.1.

If you stuck with an issue, then reset it and make default factory setting using very small switch beside or somewhere near from the power plug. Use PEN or PIN for push that small button to default factory setting and reconfigure it. Hope it helps.

Ok with Level one AP ethernet plugged into Mac. I get IP address of 169.254.193.179.  Inputing this into safari and I get "it works". If I connect via wifi IP address is 192.168.2.2 and again I get it works.  Still at a lost how to set up security.

chevrolux, How do I set a default gateway?

I can't acces my D-link router using admin too (not sure I need to as it's the level one access point) that is troubling me.

169 means there is no DHCP in the mix. You won't need a gateway to configure the AP. Just set a static IP on your Mac in the same range as the AP and plug into it directly.

Why do I get the feeling that resetting the Level one may have also turned on its DHCP server, It sounds awfully like there are two devices tossing out leases, the level one in the 192.168 range and the AP extreme in the 10.0 range

I wouldn't have a clue on a mac... wait a sec...

Here we go!

Now don't bother connecting to it via wifi. It obviously has a dhcp server running and might screw things up for us.

Just plug it in and set up your adapter as mentioned previously.
