Hi

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this - I could not see a more obvious one though.

I have a question:

My website is built (not by me - it's a template site) in flash. As I am a professional photographer, this kind of site works well as the site is 95% images.

My question(s):

1) There is an option to open an HTML landing page or go direct to the flash site. I read somewhere that the HTML page indexes better for SEO - is that so or does it not matter which?

2) Is having a landing page a bit passé these days? It offers options to go to the flash site, full screen flash site or my attached blog.

Thanks!

My recommendation:

Make a new site in HTML for your photographs.  Up to you if you still have the flash site and just fall back to HTML (so it's searchable, accessible)

And the new wisdom is to forget about SEO - instead let your content and your social network be your SEO.

Thanks.

The company is working toward replicating all their designs in HTML 5 and as soon as the design I use is done, I will be doing just what you suggest!

Assuming they make it nice and easy of course, as 'raw' html looks like Klingon to me...!!

I'd definitely move the site away from flash if possible. Even without HTML5 specific features there are a lot of flash sites (note: I didn't say all, but a lot) that could work just as well or better on just HTML\CSS\JS with all the benefits that brings.

It's still worth at least having a read through some guidelines. No need to hire an SEO as such IMO but most of these are fairly simple to follow and verify:
