Gday Everyone

I'm really looking for some advice and hopefully a nudge in the right direction!

Our company deals with large scale Efpos terminal sales across the globe. Its effectively a brokerage model where we identify who in what country has excess stock of a unit and who in another needs and and we clip the ticket along the way. We work from NZ but don't sell into NZ (to date).

We've had a fair bit to do with the Eftpos industry in NZ, but never directly; always acting on behalf of another company. We've never sold any of our kit into NZ directly; we'd need to be a Paymark partner to do this as well as have a point of distinction over all of the other players in the market.

We are about to secure the rights to a new type of Eftpos terminal into NZ. We've got some units here and the SDK - but we need the all important NZ Payment software created for the terminal, and then get Paymarks approval that we've done it right to turn them from expensive paperweights into an actual viable Eftpos machine that can work in NZ.

While we understand what we need - we don't know how to find a developer who has the skills to do this as it seems so very specific.

If anyone has some experience in this field or knows someone who does, we'd be grateful for the lead!

Have a chat to the guys at face.co.nz. They might be able to help or point you in the right direction.

They run Paystation (online CC processing hooked into Paymark) and have experience hooking up terminals as well. They helped get the AA Smartfuel card up and running.

Hi there,

Working within the current industry I can try to point you through some requirements.

Firstly, you will have to submit your device for Approval from Payments New Zealand. At the current stage, the device will have to be PCI-PTS 2.x or 3.x. No new Approvals are being given for PCI-PTS 1.3.

Its a simple process, jump onto their websie and complete the Device Approval form. You will need a copy of the certificate issued to the manufacturer stating the PCI-PTS compliance along with firmware versions etc.

Once you have that approval from Payments NZ you would then need to approach the Certification Team at Paymark. As you will be referred to as a Vendor, there are a couple of agreements, non-disclosures etc. that you will have to sign. After that, should you be successful, you will be provided with the current Paymark Certification Specification currently 2014. That document will lay out all the parameters the terminal software and hardware has to achieve as well as message structures, layouts, usability requirements, scheme mandates and a whole bunch of other technical requirements.

From that Specification document, the software residing on the terminal will need to be written. From there, you can apply for full certification, Scheme Testing etc. and after all that going through and approved you will then have a Compliant Terminal.

It does cost a bit, it take a long time, it never works the first time and the testing and certification is stringent to say the least.

If you need a guiding hand, feel free to drop me an email. As we are currently in early stages of our own certification, more than happy to help.
