Hi,

anyone know if you need to worry about HDMI wall plates and the version they support (none I found list the version).

I believe its up to v1.4 now, and I dont want to have some installed and later find out 3D or something doesnt work with them.

They are just a passthru. Keep in mind that if you hang that on the end of a long cable, and another cable to the device, chances are it will have issues.

I have 5m to a wall plate (cheap one like that) then a 300mm to the display and it glitches quite often. Not display disconnecting glitch, but image jumping sideways a little, or some black lines across the image for one frame. Dropping back to a lower refresh helps a little but still glitches. same 5m cable straightinto the display doesnt do the glitches.

One souce of them is the fridge turning on and off, not sure on the others. Turning on the fluro lights makes it drop out totally with the coupler and short cable most times, with the 5m straight to the tv, it does it very seldom.

My plates are hidden behind the TVs with little space for cables to come out at right angle to the wall. I'm contemplating fitting one of those plates with a "cable entry brush" and run the cable from the ceiling straight into the TV without any adapters or extensions. The HDMI version is only one part of it, another is contact plating quality and reliability. Over time you get tarnishing/oxidation (including on cheap gold plating) and reducing the number of connection points reduces the risk.

Furthermore whenever you have a sharp change in direction as you get with an electrical contact, you do get reflections and you reduce the link quality. A single point-to-point connection is the best.

Im using a Keystone HDMI that fit into the standard PDL 600 plate (Cory’s Electrical have them) it's connecting a 1m and a 5m cable, it passes CEC.

cheers,

ive decided to go with these from jaycar. because
1. theyre cheap
2. they look good
3. the cables are directly connected, dont have to join cables up and run the risk of need repeats or having outdated technology stuck in wall
4. can run more cables as i need them

will run a usb and a hdmi 1.4 10m cable from end to end. also bought some 8.2 wall plates from monoprice.com (expensive shipping, but still cheaper than buying in NZ)

I got a couple of those to put behind my wall mount rack thing where all the cat5 comes out. Dont overtighten them or the inside thing just splits. Seem to do the job ok.

Ideally I would like something like that which could take some 50mm flexi conduit on the inside so I can add more stuff later easily. 2 pieces per plate would be even better.
