Topic # 102552 16-May-2012 21:09 Send private message

Hi there

Was just wondering if anyone could help me.

My sister has purchased an Ipad3 Wifi/3g and a Vodafone Simcard (I have an Ipad 3 wifi only). Being very unfamiliar with it all she locked her simcard today while trying to set it up at the local library (she doesn't have internet connection at home. She rang Vodafone and they have given her a new PUK number and have said she needs to go into Safari and go to the vodafone website- but when she goes into Safari it says she can't go online as she doesn't have a connection.

I have tried to help but can't.

Be grateful for any help

If the SIM requires the PUK code then the ipad should ask for it, PUK is only related to the SIM and never changes

If a PUK code is entered a number of times incorrect then it kills the SIM

When she tried to set it up she went into Data/Simpin and put in a number off the simcard. It was the incorrect number (she was looking at the wrong number on the card). That is what caused the problem and why she was given a PUK 8 digit number to supposedly rectify it.

Where does she now put that PUK number? Her ipad says in the top right hand corner "locked sim".

Go to settings | cellular data | sim PIN

If she has entered the PUK code incorrectly too many times the SIM is now permanently locked and is now useless. If this is the case she will need to buy a new one.

Thank you for trying to help

She goes to Settings/Mobile Date/Simpin. Simpin comes up but the on/off switch is only pale blue and  showing 'on' and can't be turned to 'off'

Sorry, not sure what you mean. Same mobile number? Does that mean she will have to pay another $20?

Thank you very much for your help... she lives in the Wairarapa so will go in to the Vodafone store in Masterton. Hopefully they will put the sim card in for her at the store!!

Thanks again... much appreciated. At least she won't be going back to the library and spending heaps of time on the phone to Vodafone trying to work it all out now.

Well, the Vodafone sim card problem was sorted... it was no good and she had to purchase another $20 simcard.

There are still problems though. She cannot connect to the internet with the card. She gets 4 bars up on the 3G network, which would indicated to me that that would be good reception but connection just 'hangs'.

She lives in Carterton - can that be the problem?

There is nothing wrong with the ipad - I can connect with my Telecom smartphone using Mobile Hot spot and she can connect wirelessly at cafe's.

Anyone have any ideas please? She went with Vodafone because she doesn't have a lot of money and they were offering the cheapest sim card price.

Thank you
Donna

Not related to Carterton as the ipad is showing mobile coverage

Before data can be used the number has to be activated and have credit or a active data addon, Has this been checked?

When she got the second sim card she used up her $20 (she didn't realise she was playing an oline game and didn't realise she should turn off 3g if she wanted to preserve her money a bit!).

Anyway I set up a Vodafone account and she deposited another $20 on the sim card. It is showing that she has $20 credit but just can't connect properly.

Should we have done something else to activate it?
