I am looking for a Macbook pref 13", capable of running 10.8 ML, in decent condition with at least 3GB memory. I have had a look on trademe but wondered if there were any other popular places to look? Budget 600-700 depending on spec.

I have an 11 inch Macbook Air going on TradeMe soon. 4gb memory, 128gb SSD drive, just less than 2 years old. Much loved and from a good home of Macs. Will be expecting between $800-900 on TM. Message me if you're interested. Will run ML no problem.

Thanks but having just checked TradeMe, there are lesser models on for over $1200 so I was being generous enough! Mine is the highest spec 11inch you could get at the time, 1.6Ghz (most are 1.4) with the most memory and disk too. I'll be putting it on TradeMe this week with a reserve of $900. Good luck with your Macbook hunting.

you'd probably go for a 2010 Mac given your price range (having sold my 2011 upgraded Macbook Air 11" for $1200) What will you be using it for?

Just to familiarize myself with OSX and use it for troubleshooting customer issues. I have no desire to use it as such. I need it to run the latest OS is all really.

Charger is a standard 60watt MagSafe Memory is PC3-8500 DDR3.

Bit of a shame, the software "included" apparently is supplied as a "bonus" and no licenses or disks (stated) are included. When queried the trader suggested he had a master license to supply with his laptops but the licenses couldn't be traded and if I had a hard disk fault I would need to buy my own!! Coming from the IT Industry I was a little surprised to see such blatant attempts to dupe the consumer. I am not certain on the laws around Mac Licensing (I am more knowledgeable around the MS PC Licensing). I presume there would be a case to answer with the BSA/Trademe?

I'm going to run ML on my Mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13" soon, but try get a early-mid 2010 MBP if you want a system that can run ML. I'd say trademe or sella to find some good deals on them, but otherwise if you are willing to pay the extra premium, Apple Refurb store works fine RAM isn't too much of a biggie, since 4Gb was $47 when I upgraded my own system to 4Gb. Will be about ~$100 for 8Gb of RAM, and you'll be sweet for ML

I ended up getting a Mid 2010 with 4GB and 500GB for $725 including freight to Auckland.

Have a look here for Apple's agreements. In general terms, Apple supply a grey coloured DVD of OSX with a new machine. This is not to be onsold, and is like OEM Windows being packaged with a machine. If it has a newer OS (other than incremental upgrade) than what it shipped with, there should also be new media. Having said that, more recently Apple have supplied some machines with a USB stick with the OS installer instead (started with MacBook Airs with no DVD drive). Recent retail OS releases have also been sold only by download from the Apple Store. TradeMe's conditions of sale appear pretty rigid - got to have physical media supplied every time (even legitimate downloads are not permitted).
